I intend to give it a try. My expectations are low so if it sucks the disappointment won't be too great, but if it's good I'll be quite happy.

I thought this movie looked stupid based on the first trailer that was shown... later on it looked better, but it'll be a rent at best case for me.

I watched it on TMN. I'm not often disappointed in a movie (low standards?). But this one was all over the map. It started off good - funny, lots of potential, and then it took a turn and it lost me. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have bothered.
My advice - look elsewhere for entertainment. |

Yah - this movie was all over the map. It didn't know what it was. The tone of it changed considerably over the course of the movie from an action comedy (like Men In Black) to something far more serious. It COULD have been quite good if they kept it consistent.

How can TMN have a movie that came out today on DVD?

i'm glad i "rented" it. the first 30 minutes was good, but it went down hill fast. the ending and plot were very poor. i wouldn't spend money on this.

I watched this on BD last week and felt the same with the "all over the map" comments. The first half had me laughing with some great lines and then in the second half I was ready to fall asleep. Typical Hollywood movie in my eyes, great start but then they didn't want to offend anybody and had to have a happy go lucky ending that mirrors most of the other films out there.
I thought the BD quality was good FWIW. To the question about this being on TMN...I think it was on the PPV channel. |

Nope - not PPV ( I never buy movies on PPV). It was on one of the TMN channels that I PVR'd.

My bad - I actually saw the movie on an Air Canada flight to China. It was one of the choices for in-air entertainment. Sorry for the confusion.

I was going to say the same thing as Larry, I watched it on my flight to China. I was avoiding all the stuff that I want to pick up on BD (Iron Man for example).
I hope they change the list on the flight back. |

i watched this with my fiance a couple months back, and both agreed... will smith's movies don't often miss their mark, but this one did. it just... wasn't good.

We saw this movie at a movie theatre, and have to agree you may thing the movie changes direction part way through.
Which is too bad, since IMHO the movie alluded to a depth of story that is missing in most of Will Smith's hits. Something else that is too bad is that some of the quesitons raised in the second part of the movie remained unanswered. Leaving them open felt more like a sloppy script, or very very poor attention to continuity, rather than leaving the door open to a sequel. Without the questions answered, the movie feels incomplete and results in the impression the movie was just poorly done. The change in direction, from a dumb-ass action flick/comedy to a movie with a story and some potential depth, did not bother us, but leaving the story incomplete did. As a result, I will not be renting this to view it again. We enjoyed seeing it in the theatre, but this is one of those movies that you see once and never wish to see again....... I think anyone who accepts that this is a flawed movie will enjoy watching it at home. |
