actionshots and moosefan - I E-Mailed Samsung 10+ days ago, asking what functionality was added/issues addressed in the latest firmware update. Response from Customer Service saying that they had passed my query over to Engineering for proper response. Nothing further to date. I'll try again and will post when/if I hear anything. You'd think they would have a page/link somewhere on their website to trumpet this information...

What do you think?
Even if installing the UK firmware would allow you to play both PAL and NTSC, there might be region code issues for DVDs. You might be unable to play North American coded DVDs.

However, I'm just guessing and haven't tested this. I encourage you to try it out and let us know what you find. That information would be useful to many of us.

If you don't quote, no one will know what you're referring to. Walk you through what? Through updating firmware? Firmware updates are simple. The easiest way is to use the Ethernet port to connect to the Internet. I found that the unit automatically found the Internet connection, so all I did was to choose firmware update in the menu and the BD-P1500 did the rest. If you can't use an Ethernet connection, you can alternatively download the update and use USB key or even a burned CD to update.

Who updates what movies quick? Buy a new player, why? Are you saying that you are able to play PAL and NTSC disks on a North American BD-P1500? It seems from Samsung rep. comments in the Samsung forums that that may not be possible, at least officially. If you're able to do so on a North American BD-P1500, please let us know how.

Just a quick update.

Unless I'm doing something wrong, you cannot install the UK firmware on the US version.

I have tried both the USB and ISO update routes, and neither work.

The USB update won't launch, and I get a disc unreadable message when I try from CDRW.

Of note, both methods work fine using the US firmware.

Since Samsung has UK firmware able to play .avi, we should "encourage" Samsung Canada/US to include this capability in a future release to our markets. I'm planning to post such a request in the Samsung forums, and perhaps contacting Samsung Canada would be a good thing. I hope you'll do the same.
I tried contacting Samsung customer service and they gave a very lame reply with no indication of if and when they will support DIVX in the North American Models. I tried to have a conversation back but ended up with a similar canned response so I'm not going to hold my breath, but I will keep my fingers crossed at least. It certainly would be nice to have DIVX support.. and MP3 too for what it's worth.

When I turned on the BD-P1500 recently, it advised me that new firmware was available and asked if I wanted to install it. Totally simple.

Did the firmware update Ver 2.4 on Sunday via USB, like I always do. Now it's dead, keeps displaying Loading... I now have to send it to Mississauga for Warranty service.

I updated my BD-P1500 to 2.4 yesterday to solve some playback issues (Blur-ray of Australia wouldn't play the film, kept going back to the main menu - the first disc I've had a problem playing since getting the player on Boxing Day last year).

I copied the new firmware to a USB drive, but the first time I connected it to the 1500, I waited 20 minutes and nothing happened. I had no more time to work on it then, so powered it off and disconnected the USB key. Later on, after removing most of the files on the USB key (leaving only 6 files, including the new firmware) I tried again. This time as soon as I connected it, I got a "USB CONNECTED" message on the top left of the screen, which I don't think appeared the first time. Right after that, I got the 'confirming firmware' message which took 2 or 3 mins. Then got the message showing the current and new firmware versions - clicked YES to do the update, and it finished in about 2 mins and powered off as it is supposed to.

I powered it on again and connected the USB key again, and confirmed the current firmware was the new version. I tried most of my blu-ray discs, a couple of purchased DVDs, a DVD-R, and a DVD+RW, and all worked fine. Australia now plays fine too.

I'm guessing that the first time was just a fluke that the USB key was not recognized as far as I could see, and that it would have worked the second time whether or not I cleared some files off of that key.

Default Crank 2 won't play

Rented Crank 2. Played the previews, menu works. Movie started with a black screen. 7.1 DTS sound good, but black screen.
I have v2.4
Any settings I should mess with?

Default New Firmware released today

Have not loaded this yet but noticed on the Samsung site that there is a new firmware update - file name indicates it was produced on 09/09/28 but just released today. Can't find any listing of what it is supposed to fix but I have ongoing audio problems with non-BD discs so I am hoping it fixes that.

Smile No info on what this is supposed to do?

I have searched but cannot find any info on this new f/w.
I am wondering what if any features or fixes (other than turning your beautiful BD player into a brick) ?
