I went looking for new firmware and all i found was the 080929.01 (sept 29)

Is there a newer version?

Has anybody got BD Live working? The samsung site says the firmware updates it to profile 2.0?

Thanx,

Tom

Anyone care to provide URL of the latest update, as well as instructions how to do it? That would help folks who find this thread when they're looking for info. on how to update.

Why not use the BD-P1500's Ethernet port to connect to Samsung and download the update directly to the unit?

Default Ethernet port works well for updates

I found it easier to connect the Ethernet port to my router and let the unit download the update directly. I didn't even have to do any setup for the connection. All I did was:
  1. Connect Ethernet cable from my router to the BD-P1500.
  2. Use the menu to select System Update.
A message appeared saying:
Quote:
The new update was found.
Current version: 080418.02.XAA
New version: 080929.01.XAA
I clicked "Start" and the unit downloaded and installed the update.

Default Does the new update allow bitstreaming of DTS-HD MR and MA?

I'm looking at this model and want to use my receiver to decode. I can't find any info on what the update enables.

FS has the player for 249 and I thought it might be a good match to my Samsung TV

I've always used my reciever to decode DTS-HD MA, DD TrueHD Etc. didn't need any update to do that.
if you don't have the reciever to decode those, you can output multi ch PCM.

You'll need firmware updates to play certain discs.

Well after doing the update all seems to be working well. It was easy to do via USB. It also has BD Live available as well.

Default How do I do the USB update?

I downloaded the USB update file, unzipped it and placed the .ruf file on my USB drive. I started up the player and the only update option says the network is not available. I won't have the TV and player combination close to an ethernet outlet for a couple of weeks.

Does the .ruf file need to be the only file on the USB drive?

Is there a menu item that I'm missing?

the instuctions are downloadable on the samsung site.

NO Disc. Insert USB flash with the ruf file. It will find it. You don't go to the menu to start it.

Default HELP! Now it's not detecting my TV at 1080i

I put a new USB drive with the .ruf file in the slot after powering up the player. I was waiting for the update screen or something to happen. Then the screen flickered and the player set itself for 1080p resolution. Now I obviously can't see anything.

This happens when I put the HDMI output cable into my receiver, that then outputs to the TV, or when I use an hdmi to dv cable directly from the player to the TV. (The TV only has a dvi input)

I'm stuck. I can't get into the menu to change the resolution to 1080i. The auto-detect doesn't seem to work. When I power up the player it starts off in 1080i mode with the splash screen and load on the player display(as indicated on the TV signal), flickers, the blue start screen comes back on, it flickers again and then switches to 1080p as the no disc is displayed on the player. This is really frustrating.

It won't be a problem when I get my 1080p TV set up in a few weeks, but it leaves me high and dry for the moment.

Default AHA, RTFM

OK I pressed the fast forward on the player for 5s to reset to factory. Plugged the hdmi from player to dvi cable to tv in and did the system upgrade. Switched to an hdmi cable to the receiver and hdmi to dvi from receiver to TV. Now it works fine.

The problem seems to be when it does an initial autodetect when the player is plugged into the receiver. The receiver must fool it into thinking it'd 1080p. The receiver can upconvert, so maybe that's the problem. Anyway I seem to have it sorted out. Hopefully it will be a smoother process when I set the new system up.

Cheers!

Default BD-P1500 Firmware ver 2.1

I just installed firmware 2.1, build date 2008-12-02
Good news is it worked, via USB. I had to re-do my audio settings because it defaults to pcm, compression on etc. I set it to 'audiofile' comprssion off. I also turned anynet off. It screws up the harmony remote.
Update available on the samsung website. Someday i'll put in a network connection.....

what happened to the days when we bought a player and plugged it in, attach a few cables, sit back and watched a movie...
Looking at the Samsung BDP1500 and the Panasonic player DMP35. I have a Yamaha receiver RXV 1000 with the following Digital Sound Field, DTS, DTS-ES, DD, VIRTUAL CINEMA DSP, but no HDMI. Would the above players work with my receiver? new to Blu Ray so tip toeing carefully till I get the hang of it..
My TV is a Sony RP 1080i
Thanks
