Thanks!
El Gran Chico,

I WILL have the ability to test when my buddy arrives here on Tuesday the 13th of January. I have all the cables needed and will give it a try for you and report back.

Thanks Stu, I hope your buddy has safe drive up from Wisc. He's hauling precious cargo!

Looking forward to the review. Mine is supposed to ship sometime after the 12th. It will be interesting to check the sensitivity, and compare it to my Samsung (4th gen).

DTVpal sensitivity is excellent. But it looks like some users at another site have started having some hardware bugs (Random Reboots) with this unit and Dish Network is saying that all sales are final.

I was planning to buy one instead of a TivoHD but now I will wait to see what happens.

I expect some hiccups with a new piece of technology like this, but most will be software related and easily fixed with updates.

I will report my initial thought here on Tuesday or Wednesday of the coming week.

I Hope Tentsu that your unit goes well because I want one also.

It is going to be the DTVpal or the TivoHD for me!

I saw the Tivo interface and it is still the best compared to Videotron, Rogers, Bell or Starchoice dvrs.

Anyways for both I will have to go to Vermont for pick-up.

The only thing I really don't understand that on the DTVpal is:

If your local US Stations (CBS or PBS) don't have TVGOS ? If there an other way to get a guide besides PSIP?

Default Delay....

*sigh*

My US friend's flight was cancelled this morning due to weather. So, we are now looking in to shipping the DTVPal DVR from wisconsin to Oakville ($$$). Hope it is worth it!

On top of that, I am leaving for vacation Jan 17 through 27th, so may have nothing to share with you all until we get back!

If I get it prior to the 17th - I'll post some preliminary thoughts at least...

Send it to my house; I'll review it real good

Ah, it's probably for the best anyways. Canada customs at Pearson this morning was pretty brutal. Some sort of high alert was in place and it was taking an hour for normal civilians to get through. Thank goodness I'm on the trusted traveller program

Ah you guys... The love - I feel it!!

But man - I am DYING to get this thing here and hooked up - if only to settle the Buffalo TVGOS argument.

And YES 99semaj - NEXUS is the best! Just don't imbibe too much the night before before an early morning flight or the iris scanners have a tough time of it....

(Sorry Stampeder - slightly off topic on that last point)

Still holding out hope of a UPS arrangement before Friday!

Just called to check on the status of mine. Let's just say that follow up on sales isn't Dish's strong point. I was able to get confirmation that they had my order, and that it should have shipped on the 12th. but while trying to get confirmation that it had in fact shipped, I was "disconnected". Sounds like the lack of shipping notification is de rigeur for DISH, so I'll wait patiently for a few more days before I start harassing them.

Just arrived home from vacation last night. My friend in Wisconsin is shipping my unit to me via UPS today. Will advise on impressions as soon as it is here and hooked up!

Hi,

I received my DTV PAL last week and tried it at the cottage 90 KM north of Montreal. I get NBC, CBS, FOX and PBS from Plattsburg and Burlington and one french channel from Montreal. Télé-Quebec just went on air this week, I can't wait to see how strong the signal will be !

I get most channel at around 75% and most of them are at 200KM from my place. I have a SS-2000 preamplified antena in my attic. I even get NBC at 85%.

The unit has worked great for the 3 days I was at the cottage. I recorded Nova, Late night with Jay Leno and CSI N.Y. from the guide and also did a manual recording for the french network since the guide does not list anything for the Canadian stations. I loaded Plattsburg ZIP code into the DVR since this is the closest US city from Montreal.

I like the "jump 30 sec" button, it works better than my FF on my SA8000HD for jumping over commercial.

So far I am very pleased !

Pierre

Beat me to it!! UGH!

My unit (originally received by a friend of mine in Wisconsin December 21, WAS to arrive in Oakville today - but snow stopped FedEx... so I will have it tomorrow.

Glad to hear yours is functioning without some of the issues reported elsewhere. when did you order it? What software version is it?

Stu
