I'm not sure if any of the solutions in the following thread will work on a 7000PAL, but please let us know:

I was speculating. I thought American stations were required to have guide data once they transitioned. It's part of the ATSC standard is it not?

Good question. I've had trouble trying to find the applicable BTS procedure on the IC website. There are standards for NTSC transmission, but for ATSC, there is only the procedure for what to put into a digital transmitter application, not how the transmitter is supposed to work.

I seem to remember American stations were required to provide it even before the analog shutdown, though there were complaints that not all of them did.

No, it is part of PSIP, which I believe is outside of the ATSC standard.

I did some research on this topic about a year and a half ago when I had the same issue with my DTVpal DVR (I think I posted it in a "PSIP problems" thread). I contacted both the CRTC and Industry Canada and essentially the answer I got is that Canadian broadcasters have no obligation to provide program data or even correct time in their PSIP. PSIP is part of the ATSC standard, data within the PSIP such a program information are not part of the standard.

In the US, this is different. The FCC requires accurate time and at least 4 Event Information Tables (each are for 3 hours, so that's 12 hours minimum).

I don't mind paying for a service like TVGOS (or similar). Any 3rd party solutions for the CM7000PAL?
Me too, that's why I ended up getting a TiVo instead.

No, my reading is that time of day accurate to within a second is a mandatory part of A/65-2009. IC claims to require the previous version (RevC), which I can't find on the ATSC website, but I doubt that RevC had accurate tinme-of-day as optional.

Had an interesting issue with this unit last night where it was stuttering or skipping or temporarily pausing (freezing). I was recording a first show and watching a second. It would stutter both while watching the recorded show and while watching the live recording in progress.

If I didn't know better, I'd think it was reception issues, but this was on CBC which is my best station at 99%. Also, it did it on CITY and NBC.

Anyone seen this before?

Schmerpy:

I've noticed that if you are watching a recorded show and you lose the signal to whatever channel the tuner is set to, you also lose the sound in the recorded show. Change the tuner to a receivable channel and the recorded program will play correctly.

Perhaps it really was temporary signal break-up, or there's some bug where problems with one tuner affect the other.

I had upgraded the internal HDD to a 1TB Barracuda. Not the best choice, I know, but that's what I had.

I remember back in the 2006 time frame, upgrading my SA 8300HD Rogers box using a Barracuda external drive and having constant problems with screen/sound hickups.

So, I tried removing the Barracuda from the 7000PAL and put in a a 500GB Caviar, and presto, problems gone.

I don't know why, but it seems PVRs do not like Barracudas.

Anyone have an issue with this unit grabbing TVGOS data? According to information I have found, it should be broadcast on 9.1 in Toronto and 17.1 in Buffalo.

But, I have the impression that TVGOS is not working on my unit and I'm only getting PSIP data, since most stations have nothing beyond 24 hours and some have no data at all.

I have TVGOS turned on, but do not see the logo in the guide viewer.

Hey Schmerpy, I just fired mine up on the upstairs TV and it's getting TVGOS as normal (7 days worth on the covered stations). Unless things have changed recently, the data comes from WNED. CFTO only has it on analog 9.

Default TV Guide

Schmerpy:

If you are receiving the guide data, there should be several channels with full 7 day listings... PBS, NBC, etc. The CBC has 7-days of program titles with no details. El Gran Chico is correct that WNED is the source, CFTO is for analog devices only.

From what I've read, if it can't find the listings right away the PAL ceases to look for the data and a full reset is necessary to kick it back to life. That would be my suggestion, although you may have to re-enter all of your scheduled timers. Hardware Reset is in the menus somewhere, perhaps under Setup. It may take a day or so for the TV Guide logo to appear.

As EGC has previously noted, prepare to be underwhelmed with the data. It's great for stations that use it, but most of the Canadian channels will be blank or have meaningless placeholder listings.

Thanks. I do not have 7 day data for those stations.

I can't find hardware reset either....only "factory default". Is this it?

Yep, that's the one. As I said, I believe it will knock out all of your personal settings - your scheduled timers and maybe your Postal Code as well. Already recorded programs will be fine. Warning: this is based on what I've read, not personal experience. I've never had to do a full reset.

Thanks. Resetting it worked. I used a ZIP code from across the river from Niagara Falls and within a day I had tv guide.
