I wonder if it's a regional thing within Scarberia as well. If so, that might explain why you're having problems and I'm not (anymore).

As for which channels they choose: My guess is that channels with comparatively lower viewership are going on SDV. Thus, channels such as OMNI, PBS, and CNN make sense for this.

Question

I called Rogers Tech support and ask when it would be available here in Ottawa?

The tech said youi heard about SDV. I said yes, and mentioned it had issues. I also mentioned this forum to him./ He wasn't aware of this forum, but he did say there was issues with SDV. He put me on hold, for a few minds. Then came back. Accortding to the tech SDV wil be available Nov 27 in Ottawa, or at least in my area(Ottawa South) Now I'm not sure if this will be for the entire city or just my area?

Anyway it will be interesting to see what this SDV everyone is talking about is really like for myself.

I hope you have better experience then I have! Otherwise, be careful what you wish for as I have been minus several HD channels for about 4 days.

Well, if it works well for you, you shouldn't notice much difference. In fact, now that it is working for me, it's completely invisible.

Several off-topic posts have been deleted from this thread, which is about SDV issues, not about when SDV is coming, what it does, etc. If you want to discuss that, see the links in post 27.

I have left some posts that are "borderline" OT... Future OT posts will be deleted.

After almost a week of not working my SDV channels now work, or they work on at least 3 of my STBs. It appears that the first time you tune to an SDV channel, perhaps the first time after the STB boots up, it takes about 30 seconds to tune in the channel.

When I first tried it, it wouldn't tune those channels at all. It would just time out.

After I reboot, it tuned it immediately.

I rebooted multiple times with no success until today. The SDV channels are now working although I didn't have to do a reboot this time. We had a 1 second power outage this morning but a couple of my boxes wouldn't have been affected by that since they are on UPS's but they now work. Maybe you need a reboot OR you have to wait a certain length of time until some sort of update comes through.

I never had an issue tuning them in, they have always worked. My problem was with the video and audio breakups which seem to have been rectified. I have not experienced them this week.

Are you sure you're on SDV out there in Whitby?

I got some breakups yesterday. Tuning still works perfectly though.

I don't think "spamming" the carousel/server will help though - you will just make the queue longer, so don't flip back and forth a lot to try and tune it in. If you can't tune into a channel in a few tries then check to see if you're in b'cast. Check ch100 ROD or use the spec screen. Either way call in and get it fixed. You can check if your area is on sdv in the diagnostics.

Yes sir. SDV is live in Whitby and has been for weeks. Perhaps even before Scarborough. I am, after all, the person who started this thread.

On the diagnostics screen for SDV (page 22) it says:

SDV Channels: 152

Is there any way to determine which channels are SDV?

There is another screen (not sure of page number), where the headings are SDV Session 1 and SDV Session 2...near the top of that page when on a non-SDV channel, it will say /Broadcast and on an SDV channel it will say /Switched instead
