Default is the Yamaha RXV661b a good receiver?

bought this about a month ago..and was just wondering if this is a good receiver for blu-ray...if anyone has any input on this, it would greatly be appreciated.

Your reciever will work with blu-ray Brad.
The only thing is your reciever does not decode the new codecs like DTSHD master and DOLBY True.so you have to find a player that decodes internally.Like the one i have ,Samsung 1400 .

You would have to hook it up analog in the back

From your blu-ray player

To your reciever

But like i said the player has to decode and all you have to do is set your blu-ray to PCM,not bitstreem (trust me i have done this with a 7.1 denon reciever that didn't have decoding or even a HDMI and i got DTS MASTER and DOLBY TRUE from that reciever.)
Then just run the HDMI cable from your BLu-ray player to your tv.

If you don't care if you get the new codecs and you are just happy with DTS and Dolby you can just hook it up optical to your reciever for sound and run your HDMI cable for Blu-ray player to tv.

I personally love Yamaha recievers.I love the sound they produce.Today i own a Yamaha RX-v3800

I hope this helps you my friend

Can't he just run the HMDI cable out from the BR player into the 661 then HDMI out from the 661 into his TV. BR player set to output PCM, of course. This will get the new HD audio, right?

You know guy's i just gave him the advise that was told to me last year and which i used .I have done what i have advised personally with a reciever before and it worked fine.

But when i think of it, for example if you are useing a PS3 for a blu-ray .You have to set it to PCM through HDMI,So tecnolly you are right as well.
Thats why his reciever has a HDMI in and out.

Sorry about that, useing 2 HDMI cables and setting the blu-ray to PCM would be the easier way
both ways works. But your suggestion is the right way to hook up his reciever.

So you have Two Choices Inview11,So your question is answered you have 2 ways to use your reciever for blu-ray meaning;

"Your reciever is good enough"

Thank you for pointing that out to me and Brad
