Default 2 phone lines with PPV?

I have a question about PPV and the phone line. I have 2 phone lines in my house one is for personal and one is for business. Now only the personal line is on the account so would there be a problem if I connected a box to the other line and ordered PPV? Should I call and put the other number on the account, or does it matter?

doesn't matter

I have i-denta-call (different rings on same line) One of the extra rings is on the SC account but the base line is not. The base line is what people see on their call display. Point is, the nunber on my account, is not what connects to the unit, PPV etc.

smp01, you still have one line. Morikaweb has two lines

MorikaWeb, I would contact Shaw prior to plugging a box into a phone line whose number is different from the one on your account. Not sure if Shaw even checks but you don't want them thinking you are account splitting and giving you a hard time.

Please let us know what you end up doing and if Shaw says anything

You do NOT have two phone lines. The original poster's question is about having two different physical phone lines, where there is different calling line ID and a different number does show up on the called party's phone when using each line.

To the original poster: I suspect that they would initially assume you're splitting the account... so you probably want to call them and confirm they will accept you doing what you're proposing to do.

So if someone were to switch the lines everytime they order a ppv would they start to get hassled. ex. a receiver in a bedroom that has a one number and a living room that has another number.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to call *C tonight and inform them of the second line and what box will use it just to be on the safe side.

Edit: If they give me a hard time I suppose I can buy an extension to the powerline phone extension I have in another room.

It shouldn't matter on which phone line you're using, as it is based off the receiver, not the phone number. The phone number should only be used if you're calling through the automated phone system, where it asks for it specifically.

Even in the ToS it doesn't say YOUR phone line (asusming that would be the one on the account), just A phone line:

"To activate IPPV, your Receiver(s) must be continuously connected to a phone line to ensure your account with us remains up-to-date."

I remember a long time ago in the ToS it even stated if you didn't have your receivers connected, to the phone line, that had IPPV active on them, you could be charged a $15 fee. So it has to be receiver specific in that case, not phone number specific.

if you do have to put the receiver on your personal line instead of the business line, that's easy to do, assuming you have both lines connected in the wall plate jack. usually the lines are connected with one of them being the number 1 line and the other being the number 2 line. if you don't have a 2 line phone it will probably receive only the number 1 line and that can be wired to be either the personal or business line depending on how you wanted it when the phone installer hooked it up. if you have both lines hooked up in the wall plate, then just go down to the local store and look for a 3 way phone jack splitter. these are usually wired as one port having both line 1 and 2 in it, while the other two are wired with one of each of the lines set up to be the number 1 line in that port.
