Default Any word on getting 1080i over HD-component with LVD-2002

Does anyone know if the LVD-2002 will be able to be flashed to allow 1080i component output?

John

My take would be that the unit lacks the video DAC hardware required to output HD resolutions.

10-bit/27MHz Video DAC

That's way too weak for HD, but plenty for 480p SD.
EDIT

Then again seeing as the LVD-2001 claims the same Video DAC, and a scaler, then anything is possible.

I know JohnnyG is mulling this over. I thought maybe the company just rebranded 2001's and disabled through firmware the ability to output 1080i (oh and removed the card reader too).

I am not certain what this product now offers that is any better than all the other DIVX players.

I haven't had the chance to test one, but we received our shippment here at work last week and opened her up for photos. Don't like the look quite as much as the 2001. That nasty aqua-green colour just doesn't look like home theatre equipment. And the manual does not state the possibility of 1080i scaling anywhere. I'm guess it's removal was intentional. From what I hear, Liteon has also stopped writing new firmware for the 2001.

The 2002 doesn't really offer anything new in terms of DivX DVD playback, but it's still the cheapest solution on the market.

I think the green-ish tint looks fine - just not 'compatible' with other pieces of A/V gear! The 2002 has the same chipset as the 2001, so the chip itself is indeed capable of 1080i output. I never took the cover off a 2001, but I've got one coming back from a customer, so I'll try to compare the two on the inside.

I'm not terribly hopeful that the 2002 will be 'fooled' into 1080i output though.

Not satisfied. Something to do with aspect ratio issues on some DVDs he owns. I never had problems in this regard myself (nor to I recall reading about such issues), but I only tried a few new-release titles on it. It's already sold again.

I've had some of these issues with my Liteon2001, but only with non-anamorphic discs. (Maybe it is a combination of player and TV.) The workaround I discovered is to change the TV settings on the player from 16:9 to 4:3 Letterbox for these discs.

Here's a link to the insides of the Liteon2001 for anyone who is interested.
