It just wouldn't be MLBNetwork (As Rogers owns that, just doesn't air it) So they are basically just holding the rights to MLB's USA Channel so no one else can see it.

Shame on Rogers.

Rogers via Sportsnet will continue it's extensive baseball coverage. There are no current plans to bring MLB Network to Canada though.

And that frankly SUCKS. WE WANT THE MLB Network feed.

Canada gets, NBA, NFL, NHL, Golf, Tennis Channel broadcasts. Why not have baseball net.

I've wanted this channel for years, but now I have resigned myself to the fact that this channel will never show up in Canada. With Rogers in control of all MLB broadcast copyrights in Canada, they seem to have no desire to offer a Canadian version of this channel.

I've spoken to the head guy at Sportsnet who told me they have no plans for a MLB dedicated channel.

I really didn't understand that since Rogers owns the Jays and it's the only major sport without a dedicated channel currenly offered. Seems like it would be a no brainer for them. Guess they feel they have enough committed already to that sport

OH THIS IS WONDERFUL. BUT One has to wonder why they would want to do this midseason (the deadline is after the allstar game) and it will take carriers at least 6 months to pick it up themselves.

Why not start this process in Feb 2012.

Oh wait let me guess, the BlueJays have just gotten good and the Roger's CEO's son wants the channel.

Lots of cool stuff in the attached ZIP and Docs.

I thought Rogers had its own license for the MLB Network. The CRTC will take forever to approve a foreign channel. Don't they realize, that BELL and Shaw will most likely intervene against this channel as competitive against their own channels. Rogers has applied for U.S. channels in the past, got approval, and never launched the channel, ie Fox Business as one example

Not sure of the timing either, but I think the hope is to have it on the air for next year.. If that is the case then they should be starting the process now.

I am very surprised that Rogers is trying now though. Sportsnet 1 has started picking up some of the programming...."Quick pitch, Intentional Talk". Once they started airing these, I figured there was no chance for the channel coming.

There is a 24/7 feed out there if you look, and I have it on all the time. But I would pay almost any amount for the actual channel.

This may be a pre-emptive strike against MLB Network. I dont' think they want if offered here. They want to be the sponsor, and prevent someone else from getting it. They just want to cherry pick their programming, and never offer the channel itself.

I doubt it. If you read the docs, it looks like they already have a deal with Rogers Cable to offer the channel should it be approved.

Thumbs up Better late then never

Many good comments have been made into finally Canada having a chance to receivce what our neiighbours to the south have taken for granted for many years. Until mandating what we receive or selective offering of service's here in Canada is stopped Canadian's will always be waiting for approval of this service or that service. We have no NFL here in Canada yet we receive the NFL Network? This is good but we have the a major league team here and 2 at one time since 1977 yet no MLB? I have been able to watch MLB since many of my family members reside in the U.S. and they cannot believe it is not offered here, well hopefully some one will come to their senses and put MLB on the map in Canada..Bob Costas is the best there is on MLB! Let's get it here before the first blizzard to warm our spirits!

If it's a Canadian channel, it get approved almost immediately, but if it's a U.S. channel then it will take at least a year or more for approval, with the same usual interventions against it being offered.

I'm not optimistic that this channel will ever show up in Canada. I'm guessing that Rogers intentions are to have the rights to this channel, but never actually make it available, thus keeping control of baseball in this country. I'm a baseball fan, so I hope Rogers proves me wrong.
