I'm only in the Chatham area, not like St. Clair college has a lot of dorms/students there so there shouldn't be an issue (I'd think anyway). I did send them a bit of a nasty-gram last night ranging from refusing to give me a new Pace DVR when I signed up, stupid amounts of compression lately and the whole 5 channels out; waiting over a week for a fix. I also managed to sqeeze in a jab about the Internet price hike. |

Welp, just an update on my rant.
First off, issue fixed. Second, still annoyed how long it took; over 1 week. I said I complained, somewhat shouldn't have since I'm a new customer and receiving HD free right now and half price DVR rental. Still, I could have been a full paying customer. Third, techs were great. Yes, techs; there were 2 that came out. Easily shot the shit with them. Forth, wow was this a major pain in the you know what. Multiple boxes were swapped, lines tested, replace, splitters changed multiple times, the box outside even tested. Home base said everything was great on their end. Everything was great on our end. 1 of my boxes was fixed right off the bat (2224) but my 6416 just wouldn't aquire an IP (S0600). It was switched out with a Pace 200 (multiple). It was 10pm so it was called quits, they were already there for 3.5 hours. They were going to ask around today about this since EVERYTHING looked good. Gave me their direct cell number to call them to make a time today to come back out. I was up until 11:30 last night, still no IP (cable was working like before). Checked this morning and I have an IP! Channels work! Do you think it was an issue at home base!?!? Fifth, Either Cogeco sales do not want to push the Pace boxes, are highly misinformed, or simply lie. I directly asked for a Pace 200 when I became a customer myself 2 months ago. No, we can't do that...there are activation issues with them in your area. The techs who were out last night have been installing them for 4 months with not a single issue. They said the Moto's were, but never had an issue with the Pace and installed/saw a butt load. But anyway, I have a Pace! I have my channels back! I have whisky in me! I have Friday off! I'm happy! I can watch Bo and Covert Affairs in HD, I have my baseball games back, Speed HD to watch my racing, and PBS to get my WWII documentary. |

Two months ago and before that for quite a few years, we had the Analogue Value Pack, watched our programs on a Toshiba CRT and were able to record one of any channels we could get while we watched another at the same time. Simple.
Now, with the switch to Digital, we need an HD PVR (how's that for overkill?) to do the same thing. For the first year, we save a buck or two on what we were paying for the Value Pack but the PVR costs 8-bucks every month. Price increase. Next July, the channels will cost 53-bucks and the PVR will be $18. Price increase. Cable bill before digital migration -- $50.49 + HST Cable bill one year after migration - $70.98 + HST Anything less than adding a PVR and Cogeco has us jumping through hoops to be able to record the shows we used to. AND two VCRs are needed, because we can't record one of the digital channels and watch another channel at the same time. Whatever happened to Keep It Simple, Stupid? At this rate, in a few years, the question may very well be, "Whatever happened to Cogeco?" Last edited by mike marshall; 2011-09-17 at 07:28 PM. |

It's amateur hour again. Every season Cogeco doesn't pick up Leafs preseason games in HD.
EDIT: It's official. They won't be picking up any of the preseason games on Leafs TV on HD. |

Just received my Cogeco bill with promo's ending. So I cancelled my HD service because with Windows 7 and a TV tuner, I can record all the HD I want with a $45 antenna. Plus, I don't need a cable box to record HD, and I can share the recorded TV with all the computers I have, and stream it to my iPad/iPod. Image quality of HD OTA is much better than HD cable.
I look forward to the day when I can dump Cogeco cable TV altogether. That day is not so far off, unless Cogeco can start to offer products and services that are well priced and offer whole home recorded TV sharing. |

What about the specialty channels, and live sports? Does that enter into your decision making process? Are they a necessity or fluff? I keep asking Cogeco each week as to when they plan on expanding their HD network. Maybe complaints from their customer base will produce results quicker than just jumping from service to service. |

I was watching CBS NFL Football on City-TV late yesterday afternoon, hoping to follow that with 60 Minutes and Amazing Race.
Football ended, so I punched in Channel 5 for the CHCH simsub of 60 Minutes, thinking that Cogeco would flip to The Amazing Race on CBS when that was over. Well, they did. THIRTY-FIVE MINUTES after 60 Minutes was done! Doesn't matter how you cut it, that's unacceptable. More than that, it's downright unprofessional. |

Cogeco video on demand movie previews, it's great that I get to see this big blue box in the middle of the screen while I decide if I want to pay for the movie or not, Why would they not put a small icon in the corner or nothing on screen and let the trailer play...

I am on my 3rd box and I just called again tonite to complain about no audio and sluggish commands. I unplugged it and let it sit for an hour to no avail.
Called support they said they are backed up on resets I am number 643, what a joke! I have also had hung boxes, recorded programs that are there then gone after I have to reboot, too numerous problems to mention. Plus when you add in all the other issues like waiting an hour for the guide to start appearing and then 20 minutes for the DVR menu to show, it is completely frustrating. If my computer took an hour to come up, or I could not get the web page I wanted and it took an hour people would be screaming. But its ok for your TV service to act like its from the dark ages and you have to wait and wait and wait. And support can't even reset it for you arghhhhh because their system is "backlogged". I am at a turning point now, while my cable internet is good I need to move on, I am on the escarpment so putting up a tower with Hi-Def UHF/VHF antenna and a PVR will be in the plan come spring or sooner. I will then cancel my TV portion, thats for sure. I will continue to get my movies from either Zip.ca and Netflix as I do now as Cogeco has nothing to offer in terms of movies at a reasonable price or that TMN which also offers diddly. Oh yeah almost forgot it reboots by itself, depends though on which way the wind is blowing! Each box I have had displays the same issues! Enough is enough! Too bad I can't sent Cogeco an invoice for all the time and trouble I have endured! And for those who are thinking at purchasing one, think again. |

OMP is a sign of the STB just not able to find the mpeg signal (or due to too much interference) There is an issue with your signal. Call Cogeco. We always hear of a lot of signal issues as the weather gets cold and the conductors contract and the signal gets poor or non-existent due to poor connections.

Got a letter from Cogeco stating that they couldn't come to terms with HDNet and were pulling the channel as at Jan 31 as a result.
Apparently, they will move Oasis HD into the HD Premium Pack (Discovery World HD & HDNet) to replace the loss of HDNet. So I flip over to take a peek at what Oasis is like and of course I can't watch it becasue its presently not part of my packages! Gah! How does it not occur to them to add the channel now so that I can see whether or not I want to keep the HD Premium Package which is no longer seeming to be worth the 'premium' without HDNet.... Although I haven't watched the channel, it doesn't seem to me like this is a very fair swap. Does anybody think this is a fair propostion? Will see what they say when I get a chance to call. |

Maybe you can get them to give it to you now for a month free so you can see.
What I find interesting is that HDNet will now be gone from Rogers, Bell and Cogeco. Seems like they won't have a Canadian home.

[QUOTE=Lurker;1373734]Got a letter from Cogeco stating that they couldn't come to terms with HDNet and were pulling the channel as at Jan 31 as a result.
Although I haven't watched the channel, it doesn't seem to me like this is a very fair swap. Does anybody think this is a fair propostion? Comparing Oasis and HD Net wouldn't be a fair comparison. Oasis makes owning a HD TV worth while, though. I only wish I would watch it more often. The programmes I've seen are travelogues and perhaps some nature thrown in. There may be other services that so the same thing I don't know. I have Oasis with Bell and I think it's very worthwhile to have. However, I do not like the way Cogeco packages their TV offerings. I haven't been paying attention to the other posts on this issue, but is Cogeco offering Oasis in two different packages, or are they pulling it from one and putting it where HD Net was? I did watch HD Net when Bell had it but not as often as I did Oasis. HD Net, as you know, is more into the arts and music area. What I think Cogeco should do is put Discovery HD where HD Net had been. |
