Default Pioneer Elite SC-09TX Direct Energy Amp and AVR Combo

I did a search for this on the forums, but couldn't find anything... This thing looks sweet!! A bit out of my price range, but I would give anything to put add this to my setup.

In my opinion, it's a bit insane to spend $7K on an AVR, when a number of technologies will be out of date within 1-2 years. Products like this are usually showcases for what is technically possibly, but people in the $5K-$10K market will usually purchase a pre/pro and poweramp, one reason being that they can hold on to the poweramp and upgrade the pre/pro over time.

But speaking of an insane setup, try this on for size.. Denon AVP-A1HDCI pre/pro with a Denon POA-A1HDCI poweramp, stunning!

Sometimes these units can be a deal a year or two after introduction. For example, when I purchased my RX-V1 it was the flagship and list was somewhere approaching $5k in 1999. When I purchased in 2000, it was almost 1/2 price. I did research separates (since I'd been using separates up until that time), but in order to get good separates the price was approaching $10k, so I thought I'd try an AVR instead. Not a bad choice. Still have it and working fine...

Actually prices for home theatre separates are coming down quite nicely, especially with fierce competition down in the States from Outlaw and Emotiva. Today you can purchase a pre/pro and poweramp combination from Marantz or from Integra (Onkyo) for under CA$5,000. Great to see mass-market receiver manufacturers competing in the mid-fi market. It's becoming hard today to justify a $5,000 AVR (though your RX-V1 is exceptional, and the new RX-Z11 retails in this price category).

I guess for super high end seperates seem to be the way to go... But they seem to cost almost double as 57 pointed out. The Pioneer AVR has pretty much all the features the Denon has except the XLR, and not sure how the power ratings compare..

Of course for upgrading seperates are great, but not sure how often I would upgrade after I got that Pioneer.. On the other hand though, the people that are buying that type of receiver have lots of money, and are also the type that probably would upgrade often...

We can only dream I guess.

For the price of the SC-09TX, a person could pick up an Emotiva UMC-1 processor and several XPA-series amplifiers!
