Default CKXT2 Hamilton (SUN) Channel 15

I'm anxiously awaiting channel 15 going dark. It'll be interesting to see what I can grab in it's absence on this channel....

ditto- WUTV (RF 14) has always been one of the weaker BUFs...

@ wluchaz

I live in Eastbridge area of Waterloo. I get the following:
[what you already get]
13-1 (CKCO)
28-1 (TVO)
29 (CBC) - Very very grainy and a has a slight visible double image (* this one is still analog)
31-1 (CityTV)
61 (CBC French) - More grainier then CBC English, practically unwatchable
6-1(CIII)

[my addition(s)]
11- chch Hamilton

I'm just using a stealth hawk in the attic with a cheapo amp from the source. I think more might be possible, but you're most likely looking at outdoor install.

Hi all,

New to the forum and thinking about switching from Robbers to get free OTA programming.

I would like to mount an antenna in my attic, approx. 25 ft from the ground. I live attop a hill almost overlooking the grand river in cambridge. My roof slopes down towards toronto, buffalo so I think because its wood/shingles that would shroud the antenna the reception won't be that bad. Thoughts?

I was thinking of getting 2xCM4221 and ganging them in my attic (4228 won't fit through the hatch to the attic) and aiming towards Toronto. Think this is a possibility? Should I gang another 8-bay towards another direction, perhaps buffalo or will this actually reduce signal strength?

Here's my TVFool

blitzo,
An Antennas Direct DB8 comes unassembled so you can get it into the attic.
It is a great fringe antenna, but not for VHF further than 50 miles out though from my experience.

If I installed it on the roof, could I feasible get a few more channels? I think I can get most of the Canadian channels, but would I be able to get Buffalo from my location?

Default DB8 Antenna is mounted!

Hey everyone,

So I finally got my DB8 mounted on the roof. It's about 45 feet above ground on a 10ft mast. No interference at all. I'll be running the cable and setting the direction on it this weekend.

No pre-amp, no antenna rotator and using RG6 cabling with a run of about 40 ft.

Here's my TVfool.

Any tips or suggestions for pointing it to maximize Buffalo and Toronto reception?

Thanks in advance!

Default Big FAIL !

So I mounted my antenna, ended up buying an Eagle Aspen Rotor and and a CM777 Pre Amp as per advice of the guys at SaveandReplay. With my DB8 I get almost nothing! I was able to bring in TVO 28 and CTS 36 but that's it ? Any thoughts ? TV Fool is http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...4bba4609f4efb5

Oh and I have a newer model Samsung LCD.

Thanks,

sqamar, is the preamp power inserter receiving power? Can you confirm there are no splitters between the power inserter and the preamp in the coax run?!

Inside the pre-amp, is the selector switch set to "combined"? This will enable you to receive VHF stations as well. Which you should be able to do, as both CHCH Hamilton (RF 11) and CKCO Baden (Kitchener, RF 13) are close enough that even a UHF antenna should grab them. Even channel 6 Paris (Global) should be close enough to grab on a DB-8.

Have you connected the coax to the proper spigots on the CM7777? DB-8 goes to the "UHF/Combined" spigot.

Jase88,

No splitters, just one run from CM7777 to power supply. Coax RG6 from Antenna to UHF or Combined Input and second RG6 from Output power to power supply.

I didn't open up the pre-amp just installed it as received as per instructions.

Funny thing, with rotor at 10 degrees, I get CKCO bypassing power supply and not when I am plugged in? My worries were if the rotor was gonna work!!

This is crazy!! I was thinking cable issues, but it is bringing in some channels...

Thanks again.....

I'm trying to wrap my head around your setup...

First off, the Eagle Aspen rotator uses communication and power via coax to operate, at 17 volts DC. Fortunately the CM7777 also uses 18 volts DC, and the Eagle Aspen is designed to power such pre-amps.

So--from the antenna--your coax goes into the preamp to the rotor, and down to the power inserter/controller, then to your TV?

Is this how you've set it up?! Or have you set up separate coax runs? One for signal, the other for rotator control/powering?

sqamar - just a quick question about your install, i've read up on those eagle aspen rotors and it says you can run the same coax for the antenna and the rotor and the preamp, i don't know if you ran a dedicated wire for your rotor or if your using the same coax for your antenna and the rotor, but if your using the same wire for both maybe thats why your not getting the reception your looking for. Just an idea?

thats funny i was reading some other posts, i had already loaded this one and commented when i read your post jase88 oh well looks like where thinking the same thing... :-)

Hey Guys,

I have 3 dedicated cables running. One from the rotor to the rotor control box, one from antenna to the pre-amp and finally one from pre-amp to power supply.

I read a post by VideoBruce on another forum about the Eagle Aspen and his idea of running a dedicated coax to power it.

Anything else? By pass pre-amp next trip up ?
