Default Custom route info needed.

Hi everyone. This is my first post. I'm scouring the Internet trying to find any way (and hopefully the best way) of making my own custom driving routes on my computer and uploading the information to a Garmin 255W that I intend to buy.
I think I've stumbled across one method but so far I don't know if the website supports the 255. The map program is the harley davidson Ride Planner. A button, "GPS Synchonization" at the top of the map screen lets you upload to a GPS if you have Garmin Communicator Plugin installed.

Has anyone used this harley device for custom routes?

I can make custom routes I want easily on Google Maps but I don't see any method of uploading the route to a GPS device. Is there a way of uploading routes from Google Maps to a 255?

Any words of advice?

Default GPX files

Just joined too. I found a Wesite called Sunday Morning Rides, they describe and have some tools for making GPX files which are compatible with Garmin devices. I am having trouble loading routes from this site into a Tom Tom.

good luck!

A simpler option may be to look at setting waypoints or multiple sequential destinations. These are features that many/most GPS units support OOTB.

I tried this once on a TT I had for a few days. It was so laborious just plotting a route out of the city that I gave up. I couldn't imagine having to do what I want to do - plot a custom backroads drive of about 200 miles. It would be so much easier on a 21" computer monitor.

I'm getting slowly (very slowly) closer to my goal. I need a GPS that will accept "routes". I think I've settled on a Garmin Nuvi 750. The 255W that I mentioned above won't do this. From what I read I need City Navigator NT (I think it comes standard with this) and MapSource. Then I can plot and upload custom routes. So I've read! I guess time (and experience) will tell.
