Default Missing Firmware

Even though the firmware was available last week, it doesn't appear to be available any longer. I went there this weekend and I get an invalid entry when I follow the link. Was there a problem with the update or did they just change where you download it?

It appears Sony took it down!

Yes they did. Apparently it has a bug, but I haven't seen anyone report problems with it yet.

Hopefully they fix it soon, since I'm picking up my S350 today.

Weird. I just upgraded to 07.4.010 via the network jack, but I still don't see the 010 firmware on their site.

The update is only available if you pick USA as your country along with the model # BDP-S350. There is no update available if Canada is picked as the country. So does this mean, the units sold in Canada have the updated firmware?

Default Sony BDP-S350 - audio outputs

Quick question - does the Sony BDP-S350 maintain the Sony BDP-S300's discrete analog line-outs? Can't seem to find the answer... Thanks.

The 350 does not have analog outs.

Default Sony 350 - how to stretch

I just picked up a Sony 350. It looks great so far. The upscaling is much better than I anticipated.

I upgraded from a Samsung DVD player which had the Easyview function, which made it easy to stretch images to the fit the TV. I was disappointed that the Blu-Ray has nothing like this. Does anyone know any tricks to to stretch 4:3 to fit 16:9 or to fit a 2:35:1 film (like Star Wars) into the entire screen?

Some TVs allow you to stretch incoming HD signals. If yours doesn't, then you're probably out of luck unless you send a 480i/p signal to the TV.

What's the make/model of your TV? Why not watch the material as the director intended instead of distorting or cropping the picture? See the following recent thread on the topic.

I have a 40" Samsung LCD 4092. It's 1080i, but the Blu-Ray still looks spectacular. I know zooming distorts the image a little, but it's nice to be able to fill the screen since my seating position is pretty far back. I guess I don't have that option anymore. If I set the Blu-Ray player to 480p, I may as well stuck with standard DVD.

If you're sitting so far back that the screen looks small, you may not notice a difference switching to 480P? For a 40" TV, you should proably be sitting about 6-7' from the TV. Obviously no burn in concerns on your LCD.
