I am on a buddy plan with my daughter, who uses her phone only for voice calls, and I've been charged over $200 for text messages that have come in that she had no idea about.
They came from two sources, both of which charged for each message. One was for a daily horoscope at $1.50 per time, and one was from a Facebook advertiser that cost even more than that. Neither of them was signed up for by my daughter. Apparently they send you two messages asking if you want to "opt out", and if you don't they just start sending each day. My daughter didn't even know how to access the texting area if her phone until I got the bill and we figured it out. I'd like to ask people if they've had this same problem and did they have to pay the bill of unsolicited text messages. I phone MTS and they were willing to cut the cost in half, but do I really need to pay for unsolicited text messages? Is there a way to stop any incoming text messages when a person doesn't use that feature of their phone? Thanks. Greg

Thanks, C83
Did you complain to your mobility company, or to the company sending the unsolicited messages? Greg

I complained to the company sending the messages, and then I complained to the BBB who followed up, and that is when the company responded and agreed to send me the refund.

I am an avid user of Facebook, but I went through extraordinary measures to deactivate the so-called "Facebook Platform". Just about any Facebook app requires you to "opt-in" to the "Platform" but with a bit of careful reading you can see that you are in fact exposing most of your personal information to a plethora of external and unknown entities.
I'd bet your family is not even close to the first ones to be victimized by this. |

Oh, I'm sure. I'll bet millions have been made on this type of scam.

Also, how did you go about deactivating the Facebook platform. Some applications do not have a way to deactive their information collecting, and even if they have an "after the installation" edit pane, I've heard that some of them, and Facebook itself can retain any information from your profile even after deactiving an application or even after you delete your profile from Facebook.
Thanks. Greg
