Mango, I changed that setting and we are online now and have a dialtone.

Before leaving Callcentric though I spent alot of time with their support department trying all kinds of different setting in my PAP2 to get things working more stable than they were. I am sure there is quite a few things now that should be changed in the settings to get my PAP2 now tweaked for use with voip.ms

I find Voip.ms easy to configure mainly because they use most of the default settings of the ATA. If you did a factory reset on your PAP2T it would have set most of the settings properly. The only 3 things to change are the SIP timer T1 to 1, the RTP Packet Size to 0.020, and you might want to hard code the IP address of your voip.ms server into the proxy as the IP Name often doesn't get resolved quickly enough to ensure you'll get another dialtone after immediately using your line after hanging up from a prior call.

Ah, I totally forgot about doing a factory reset! That's what I will do. So basically follow the setup on voip.ms setup then what possibly modify it with your recommendations. Thanks for the tips!

Well I tried resetting my unlocked PAP2 (previously a 1st gen Vonage unit) using the IVR entering **** then 73738# and it says invalid option

The PAP2 has version 3.1.22LS (latest?) software on it.

Maybe I should skip the factory reset in case it re-locks itself to Vonage somehow?

I probably would skip doing the reset if your box was once locked to Vonage. I don't know enough about those types of boxes, but I have read previous posts where people claimed resetting their ATAs restored the voip company's settings and locked the device.

Should you decide to do it again, there is a button on the PAP2 that you could press and hold in for 10 seconds with a pin.

Well oddly enough there is also reset option with the pin I heard there may be a jumper inside but I am not going to do the reset anyhow so its a non-issue.

I also tried their DTMF test via 4747 and its not reconizing the # key?

For some odd reason I cannot receive incoming call with the new DID I got from voip.ms? I am getting call failed? I setup it up 2 days ago.

If you route your DID to the echo test, and call it with a cell phone or a land line, does it work?

If not, then it is a problem on VoIP.ms' side and you should report it to them.

If so, it is a configuration issue and you should check things like: your POP and the server your ATA registers to is the same, your ATA is registered, and your device type is set to ATA.

The DTMF test doesn't recognize the # key for me either, though it does work elsewhere. No idea what's up with that.

I think you're on the "Add Phone Number" screen, not the "Add SIP URI" screen. The buttons are right next to each other.

Yup, that's what I was doing. I just realized I was clicking the wrong button.

Thanks Mango.

So: as of yesterday, I now have a calling queue, so that people calling me when I'm on the phone can listen to Smooth Jazz while they wait for me. I also set up an IVR so they can leave a voicemail message if they don't want to wait.

I'm so popular this will get used about twice per year. But still. A guy having an IVR and calling queue? That's just cool

I haven't tampered with the "Calling Queue" yet. So did you somehow disable your call waiting so that instead of beeping to let you know of another call, it goes straight to the queue?

Do you have any way of knowing that a call is in the queue?

Yes, I disabled call waiting, and no, I'm not sure if a call is in a queue or not.

Here's something I haven't played with and would be interested if anyone knows: if I'm on a call, hear the call waiting tone, and don't answer, does the call get sent to the Busy or No Answer destination?

I believe I've tested that before and it goes to the "No Answer" destination. It treats it as though your phone was actually ringing and ringing.

I noticed that Voip.ms is no longer charging for incoming SIP URI calls. I would have started using this ages ago if I knew about it. My friend is on voip.ms too and I've been using the DID to call him. This will save a bit of money. The charge to call other numbers on your voip.ms service (sub-accounts) was always .0010 per minute, but I noticed that is at zero now too. Awesome.

So a couple things,,
Tried faxing with voip.ms,, now it probably would not be an issue with regular numbers as I use premium routing, but here I used and HP service;

Send a one page black and white text fax to 1-888-hpfaxme (1-888-473-2963).
When your fax is received by the HP Test Fax Service, we will generate a return fax to you within five minutes confirming that we received your fax. This verifies that you can both send and receive a fax with your fax machine.
If you do not receive a return fax within 5-7 minutes, there may be a problem with the setup of your fax machine. Consult the user manual that came with the product for proper setup and configuration.

So at first I was out Value for my toll free service, I tried 4 times until it went through. I switched to Premium, tried the test 5 times, went through everytime. Now I'm just gonna leave it on value as most fax numbers are not toll free, but just thought I'd let people who are intrested faxing with this service, that it works.

Maybe a dumb question, but is call waiting on by default?
