It's all good got it figured out found a dial plan that allows 7, 10, and 11 digit dialing.
(<:1555>[2-9]xxxxxx|1[2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|[2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|*xx|*xx.|[34689]11|822|4443|4747|0|00|[2-9]xxxxxx|1[2-9]xx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|4XXX|xxxxxxxxxxxx.)**

555 being the area code.

Not with any great reliability. You could remove the S0 at the end of the 7-digit sequence. If you do that, you will have three seconds after dialing the 7 digits to dial another digit.

Edit: I see you already figured this out. Oh well

I typically dial the number first, then hit talk, so not really an issue but thanks for the tip!

I finally got my voip.ms up and running and all I have to say is wow. I get all this for under ten bucks a month in heavy usage? How can they make money!

The sound quality is awesome, probably even better than POTS using value routing. No problem with CID. I love how it rings my cell at the same time when someone calls my VOIP line!

Setup was a total breeze--I avoided going the VOIP route simply because I was afraid the setup would be a PITA. It's not at all. It took me less than 10 minutes. The couple things I didn't know how to configure on my PAP2T the Live Chat solved for me right away.

The only minor problem I'm having is my phones ring strangely when I get calls. Instead of a continuous ring, they sort of cut in and out as they are ringing... it's weird. Not sure what's causing that.

Oh Oh - don't say stuff like "how do they make money"? Employees from voip.ms read this forum. Do you want them to raise their prices??

People never realize that comments like this often lead to price increases.

Change your phone adapter to Sinusoid under "Regional Settings" and see if that fixes the ringing of your phones.

I guess when they say Value they really mean value, I was using Premium, switched to value to see the difference, didnt really, tried couple calls tonight, no go, switched to Premium, instantly connected. I guess you pay a premium for calls to go through..

The question you should be asking is "How does Bell/Rogers/Telus/Shaw/etc justify charging me such outrageous rates when they're using a service just like this?"

Bell and Telus own their own PSTN network, companies like Shaw and Rogers just picky back off other networks.

Be sure you're in the Advanced Administrator settings.

You should set the Ring1 Cadence to 60(2/4), the Ring Waveform to Sinusoid, and the Ring Frequency to 20. You may also need to set the Ring Voltage to 90.

I should clarify:
Long distance rates.
I.e. anything charged by the minute.
Local phone rates supposedly pays for the lines and such. I get that much. (still probably too high, IMO)
But in terms of LD:
They're using data networks to transfer voice for (essentially) free,
yet charging 5, 10, or in the case of cell phones 30 and 40 cents EXTRA on top of normal local charges.

This is true, I know people will argue on this, but companies like Bell, Telus, Shaw, Rogers.. to say the least the list could go on,, have an infastructure to build and maintain. A voip provider doesnt, its using someone elses network, not their own, this cuts cost at an incredible price. Does Vonage come out to your house, hook up your phone? Does Voip.ms have to go repair broken down telephone poles? This is an issue that the big players have to deal with, hence the cost. Even comparing services like Telus and Shaw for phone service, is Shaw really that much cheaper? $21 for basic phone line, seems like the same price as Telus. Just a thought..

No argument here - that sounds 100% correct to me.

Hopefully, VoIP.ms is very profitable. The good thing about having a (mostly) pay-as-you-go business model, is that one or two extra heavy users don't hurt your bottom line...they help it. Margins can be lower, because income is likely very closely proportionate to expenses. Even a $3/month user could be profitable, if they don't make a lot of support requests.

Well I signed up with voip.ms 2 days ago after switching from Callcentric and for some odd reason I do not get a dialtone after following their setup instructions in voip.ms's support area. I am using a PAP2 (unlocked) with my Rogers cable internet (Express).

Is there somewhere online I can view a snapshot of the setup page(s) to verify all my settings are correct? I am sure its a setup/config issue on my end as when I setup Callcentric awhile back everything worked within minutes following their setup on their website.

SheeB: Be sure to set "Use DNS SRV" to "No". Callcentric uses this setting and VoIP.ms doesn't.
