I meant you may as well just stick with using your Vonage line for incoming calls as you will pay 0.00 dollars/cents. You've already paid your monthly bill for Vonage. If you forward Vonage to Voip.ms, not only will you have paid your monthly Vonage bill, but now you'll be paying additional minutes on top of what you've already paid. It's only if you are concerned about money. The main point is that you don't have to bother getting a new number if you are concerned with money. A new number means people are going to have to learn a new number for you. If it were me I would just wait for the Vonage number to be ported, and use voip.ms for outgoing calls if need be.
Using it for outgoing calls will provide you with a solid test. Once you put your number port in place it's a bit too late to turn back. You might want to use Voip.ms for a week for outgoing calls only and then if you find it works well order the number port. |

Ok I follow you why double pay incoming calls,, alright,, i guess its just cause I would of simply removed the vonage box out and install the linksys ata and be done with it.. But I'm picking up my device a little later this evening,, like you mention I can test out the service with outgoing calls and get a feel of the service.. Do I need to deposit money in my account prior to making calls?? And curious,, when I place a call what do people see on the other end if I have no DID??

If you don't assign a number, they'll get a bunch of garbage numbers on their screen. On the voip.ms website, you can punch in your Vonage number for your caller id display. The name comes from what you've coded into your ATA. Note that if you are using the value option instead of premium, your name won't show. Your number may not show either. It all depends on what voip.ms is doing with their system. Sometimes I find it works, and sometimes it displays a Quebec phone number.
Yes you will need to make a deposit before you can place any calls. They charge in US funds. |

I am a little supprised everything is in amercian dollars but I guess it is what it is. So in order for caller id to function I need to be on the premium rate right?? what about incoming calls? I feel like I saw the option once in the menus, that id cost xxx amount per call.

Yes they charge for name lookup on incoming calls. There is no charge for receiving just the number.
On outgoing calls your name and number should work if you are using premium. If you are using the value route, your number "might" go through but not your name. |

Where do I configure the name lookup for incoming calls? Seems silly to me I have to pay twice as much for outgoing call if i want people to see my name.

Yea it's because the company they are using charges more. The sound quality is better too. The value route sounds much better now than it did last year. So they must have switched companies for their value route.
Go to your MANAGE DID screen to turn the CNAM option on or off. |

Just signed up with voip.ms. Great so far!
I'm trying to set up my voicemail with a softphone (X-Lite) but doesn't seem to be working. I've used sip:*xxxxxx@sip.ca2.voip.ms (where xxxxx is my voip number) as the 'Number to send calls to voicemail' but it just cuts off with a busy signal. Any suggestions? TIA! |

Voip.ms looks after sending your callers to voicemail after a pre-determined amount of time. Go to your MANAGE DID and set the timeout to 20 or 25 seconds. If you don't answer before those seconds are up, the caller will timeout. You would also set your voicemail mailbox number on your DID. Voip.ms looks after the transferring of the call to voicemail. You don't need to fo it.

Can I set up voip.ms like Primus with Simulring? The feature where if someone calls my VOIP phone it'll ring my cell at the same time?

There is something called ring groups where you can do the following;
"Your account currently has a ring group restriction limit of up to 4 SIP, IAX2 or SIP URI members and/or up to 4 call forwarding entries, for a total of 8 possible members per ring group entry." Not sure if this is what you consider as Simulring.

Yes I was with Vonage at one time and it's the same thing. You get more than one phone to ring simultaneously. Whichever phone answers first gets the call. Lawman is correct - it's ring groups.
