Default Broken remote control replacement? (SA 3250)

Hi Guys,

I purchased the SA 3250 a long while back and the remote has partially died. Most of the buttons no longer work (certain numbers, guide, up/down arrows etc). When they are pressed down the red light no longer lights up. Do you know if rogers or other stores sell replacement remotes or do I have to shell out and get a universal? Or is there another route I should be going? The remote is the one with 4 button on the top.

Thanks!

Default "The Source" has replacements

Saw a replacement Rogers-branded Universal remote control (the one's packaged with the PVRs) in "The Source" flyer recently. I believe it was in the $30-40 price range. The remote should work with any Scientific Atlanta/Cisco box that Rogers sells/rents (don't know if it works with the Motorola boxes they use out east). I have the same remote pictured in the flyer and I've used it with different boxes around the house without any problems. Hope this helps!

Hi,

I'm sure Rogers will exchange the remote - no cost to you. Just take it to a Rogers cable store.

I had called Rogers first but my sense is they don't really need you to.

I assume you replaced the batteries. Yes Rogers will usually replace the remote, but most of them have the 5 button remote now. If you want the 4 button, you should call and see if they have it. The remote model number is usually on the battery compartment.

Oh, c'mon! They won't say 'boo'.

If you're renting it, sure, you can ask for a new one. But if you own it, they'll tell you what they told me when I brought in my 4 month old Best Buy-bought 3250 HD because the LED was firing all the bars to make up the time/channel: If it's under 30 days old, bring it back to where you bought it for an exchange. Otherwise, contact SA for sending it back to their factory and get it repaired/a new one (since it has something like a 3 year warranty). But I don't think they cover the remote (perhaps, though!).

P.S. Rogers Video -- where I went to enquire about it -- sells the remotes for $25.00. Cheaper than The Source.

If you could go in and ask for a replacement remote, I would have saved $35. Why didn't I go to Rogers Video [actually rebranded Rogers Plus now]? Call me a sucker, but I paid the $9 for the dippy Radioshack/The Source extended warranty. A rip off? Well, I bought a flat circle battery for my Bose Wave stero and got the protection plan (something like, 80 cents) and it died 6 months later. Went in w/out even the receipt and they asked for my name, address, etc. and they gave me a new one. Saved me close to $4 and it's still good 'til almost the end of 2009. I figure, by 2011, I'll PROBABLY have to replace that remote control. $9 now is a lot better than $25 or $35 later.

A couple months ago I replaced my remote by just taking it in to a Rogers store and telling them I want a new one. They never asked if I bought it or was renting it or even who I was, just took it and gave me a new one.

Nice to know that Rogers will replace any remote, whether the box was bought or rented. Originally thought that Rogers would only replace remotes that came with boxes that were rented. Will certainly keep this in mind for future reference.

Hey thanks for all the help guys. I ended up going to a rogers store and they first they were going to just let me exchange the one I had until they decided to load up my account and saw I didn't rent the box so they ended up charging me.

Anyways thanks again for everything.
