I'm running Vista Ultimate and I've never been able to get the mouse scroll wheel to work in iTunes. My mouse drivers are updated, my Vista is updated and I just updated to the latest version of iTunes (8.00.35) and it still doesn't work. Scroll wheel works fine in all other applications.
Can anyone else use the mouse scroll wheel in ITunes on Vista? Any ideas on how to fix? |

Works fine for me with Up to date Vista Home Premium and the latest Itunes (Upgraded Wednsday).

I finally got this to work by uninstalling the Microsoft "IntelliPoint" software. It's too bad because that software had some nice features. It allowed for a quick zoom button on the mouse and horizontal scrolling by moving the wheel sideways.
Oh well. I'd rather have normal scroll wheel function in iTunes. I hope this thread helps someone in the future as I couldn't find any information on Web regarding this problem. |

If you were to reinstall would the problem reappear?

Yes...I tried installing two different versions of IntelliPoint and the problem came back both times.

I often think that MS and Apple screw with each other with there cross platform stuff like Itunes. There is more odd ghosty crap like this ...

You're not alone. I also have Microsoft Wireless Mouse and Keyboard. Recently updated to Vista and the scroll wheel won't work in iTunes. Glad I came across your post.
Does your scrolling work at all? Mine works but only if I scroll REALLY fast. But even then the results are not desirable. Shrugs I am not going to uninstall the intellitype because the mouse and drivers offer some cool shortcuts and whatnot. Hopefully, the next iTunes or updates from Windows will correct this, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'll throw in a long shot here...
There's a process called "ipoint.exe" that always runs in the background with the installation of the newer IntelliPoint packages. Just for testing, kill this process and see if you can scroll in iTunes. It'll cripple some of your mouse functionality but shouldn't effect scrolling, besides you're just testing and it'll come back after a reboot or if you manually restart it. It causes lots of problems with Adobe CS3 software and there's no fix for it, other than installing an older version of IntelliPoint that doesn't have ipoint. |

I reinstalled IntelliPoint and tried killing iPoint.exe. It didn't work. I did find out something else though and it's really weird. Uninstalling IntelliPoint works but only until I reboot.
After a reboot I can no longer scroll in iTunes. If I reinstall IntelliPoint and then uninstall it again scrolling comes back...until the next reboot! MisterJ...My scrolling didn't work at all. |

I'm having the same problem with iTunes, Vista and a Microsoft Mouse. Configuration:
Dell Studio 514 desktop computer (Intel Core 2 Quad) Vista Home and Student 64-bit Microsoft Intellipoint 6.3 software Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 4000 For a similar problem, the Apple group was successful in getting an update to iTunes: http://discussions.apple.com/thread....ageID=3108523& If those of us with the scrolling problem complain here and on the Apple forums, perhaps we can get this bug fixed, too. Considering that this problem is only manifested in iTunes, a solution from Apple (not Microsoft) is appropriate. |

I think I may have figured out what the issue is (but not a solution) with the particular mouse I am using (Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000). The scrolling functions have been split into 2 separate functions: horizontal and vertical scrolling. On this mouse, you scroll the wheel vertically to move vertically. To scroll horizontally, you press the wheel on the either side. These settings can be enabled in control panel. Turning off the horizontal scrolling doesn't help.

This "workaround" from Microsoft might help:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/828675/en-us I came across this thread by accident and I was able to replicate the issue with iTunes, Vista Ultimate, and a Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0. I went in to the mouse control panel and changed to a Standard Wireless Optical Mouse and was able to scroll in iTunes. Mind you, I had to set the vertical scroll speed to the very lowest (it was ~40%) to maintain the scroll speed I had before. I'll probably change back to the "correct" configuration since I never noticed the iTunes problem in the first place. Kevin |

I'm having the same problem with no luck. The weird thing is that horizontally it sometimes works fine

Big thanks to KevinK for that link - this has been getting on my wick for nearly a year now.
I use an MS Wireless laser mouse 8000, and haven't ever been able to scroll in iTunes using it (unless I spin it frantically). With that MS workaround, I have now selected that my mouse is an Intellimouse Explorer 3.0, and as far as I can tell I have exactly the same functionality (I can side scroll with the wheel, I can use both left hand and right hand side additional buttons) and best of all I can scroll properly in iTunes! Had to decrease the sensitivity a bit as KevinK suggests, but now is perfect... |
