SA8300HD PVR Volume Cuts Out - Canadian TV, Computing and Home Theatre Forums

Does anybody eles have this issue?

I am flipping channels usually in HD, and the Volume drops out completely. It hasn't happened to me in SD. I have to unplug the unit, and reboot after 30 minutes. If I reboot to early the screen seems shaky and is likely to do it again.

Not to mention the pain in the neck it is for recordings.

We rented the box for 10 months, and this didn't happen. We bought one and have been fighting this issue for a while. I returned it last week, got a new unit, and still the same issue.

Can anybody help informing me, before I make the call to the empire?

Since it happened with two different PVRs, we can rule out the PVR itself. Do you have it in an enclosed cabinet (could be heat related).

Did you check the signal strength? (Did you split the cable recently for another TV?)

Is the audio coming from the TV or are you using an A/V receiver? The problem could be with the TV. Having to wait 30 minutes sounds like a heat issue. Also if you have shaky image and sound problems, it again points to the TV. Do you have another TV you could hook your PVR up to?

Just some ideas.

If you've set the Picture Format to "Auto", you might want to try "Fixed". Maybe when you're changing HD channels and the signal is switching between 720p and 1080i, the TV is having a problem with the change.

Just make sure that when you change it to "fixed" you're not on an SD channel. You want to have the STB on a channel with the format you want the "fixed" setting to be on. Say 1080i.

Since my Panasonic LCD has a mini fit when the format changes, I usually have my PVR in "General Settings" on "Fixed" and then in "Quick Settings" I can select the "Picture Format" I want. I usually leave mine at 1080i, but some times switch to 720p. That seems to work for me.

I just went and checked my setup since it's been a couple of years since I messed with the basic settings and I see that if you sellect "Fixed" in "Set: Picture Format" under "General Settings" that the "Picture Format" item is added to the "Quick Settings" menu.

I found it handy using the "Quick Settings" menu to switch between 720p and 1080i to determine what format was best to send to my TV.
