Rainy: Is your beef then that the series are cutting into repeat opportunities for the movies, so much so that you miss some movies despite having a recorder? That certainly hasn't been my experience. There are enough MC channels that almost all of their movies get repeated numerous times. Occasionally, a movie will only be shown once or twice, but I assume that's because of licensing arrangements, not because the series are taking up too many slots in the line-up.

Or is your complaint the one that JohnnyCanuck suggests, that channels called "Movie Central" are not 100% movies? I.e., is it just a matter of the name not matching the content? Would they have been better named something like "HBO Canada"?

Without the HBO series...why would anyone want MC?

The Sopranos had a cult following...same with Entourage...(tomorrow night guys)...Dexter...Six Feet Under...etc etc etc...

You can rent far better movies...in Blu-Ray...for better picture and sound...and better movies...

The only thing better would be if the CRTC allowed HBO-HD into Canada...but that is for another thread...

The series are just as valuable to me as the movies. I subscribe to MC for premium content, not just movies. Dumping the series for an increased number of repeats is the strangest argument I've come across.

If MC is like TMN then consider yourself lucky that MC has these series. Without them the channel wouldn't exist.

IMHO by the time a movie hits a channel like HBO/TMN/MC it's pretty old.

I always thought it would be a good idea for movie channels to air music videos instead of those stupid shorts or the same previews 2 or 3 times between movies. .

BTW on the topic I'm with having movie channels play only movies and series on series channel. I'd say if their going to play series then dedicate a channel strictly for series and leave the movies to the movie channels.

Default MovieCentral HD - Should it be called SeriesCentral?

Wow, with the HBO channel shakeup, the MovieCentral HD channel lineup is pretty depressing. A quick glance at the schedule on their website for tomorrow (Oct. 31) shows 8 movies during the entire 24 hour day, with 2 of those being repeats (The Grudge 2 and Summer House). From 8pm until 6am the next day is just series repeats. How can a movie channel not show any movies in primetime? Yikes.

I'll give things a while for the schedules between HBO and MC to settle, but if things stay close to this, I'll be dumping MC after Dexter is done. I can always catch Brotherhood from DVD's.

Quote from the Movie Central website:

Quote:
Viewers please note: On October 30, 2008, MC4 & HD1 will become HBO Canada & HBO Canada HD at no additional charge to current subscribers.

Original series will continue to be offered on MC1. HD2 will continue to be available under the title MCHD.

Yeah, but the point is, in one fell swoop Movie Central drastically cut the amount of movies they're airing in HD. HBO Canada will be dominated by series, and the other MC HD channel will continue to air other series. Movies get a smaller and smaller slice of the pie. Ironically, Dexter is what's keeping rsambuca as a subscriber. Of course that's due to the paucity of quality movies they air, not that movies are lousy at retaining subscribers.

Like rsambuca, I'm not pleased with Movie Central dropping an HD channel simply to slot in HBO Canada. What is someone to do when looking for a premium movie channel? There isn't one to be found...and that's a problem.

Well, I guess I will have to take my rant back. I have had time to go through a few days of the MC-HD schedule, and it appears that the series dominated first day is an anomoly for the most part. Most days going forward are predominantly movies.

Now we just need MC to fork out some dough for better quality HD movies. I support Canadiana, and am a fan of Sarah Polley, but frankly, if I have to make a choice, I would rather watch Harry Potter in HD than Away From Her, but I guess that is for another thread...
