Shaw sent me a Trade in your old satellite receiver and get an HDPVR plus one month of HDTV service free card. I'm just using their high speed Internet these days.

No go in Winnipeg. Just called Shaw. I mentioned the Bell deal (we don't have Telus here) and they offered me 50% off. I then mentioned that others were being offered free HDPVRs, they said that was only for their Winback promo and was by invitation only to former Shaw customers who switched. My co-worker got the offer from them a week ago, he's with MTS.
I did manage to get Full Cable for $6.00/month more than what I'm paying for basic cable for 6 months though. Better than nothing I guess. |

Yup, got my NEW DCT6416 III last weekend. Traded *C HD505. First month free with most specialty channels available as a preview for the month.
They need proof of current satellite service. Also trade in a second reciever and recieve a digital terminal free. Units may be refurbished. This mailout was in Red Deer and expires Aug31. YMMV. Trying to quit startchoice was like pulling teeth. They offered a HDPVR with a 200 dollar discount by reducing my bill by $10.00 a month for 20 months. He had all kinds of reasons not to switch. I saw an ad today from Bell which now has a HDPVR for 200 bucks so..

When I first got shaw (back in January) I bought a Shaw HD box for 400 bones from future shop. I just couldn't bring myself to pay the 700 for a HDPVR (the price at the time).
now i regret not buying the pvr. But I called them and told them about bells deal. After a little tug of war, they came back said i was a valued customer and offered me the hdpvr for 299. They'll also give me 200 for the old HD box. So I'm ok with that, 100 bux to get the pvr added. |

Good Day all,
Just wanted to add some info to this if I may. Came home yesterday and found a Shaw flyer under my door with a sales persons name on it with some info he wrote down on it. So I figured what the hell. Right now I only have the high speed extreme internet with Shaw. So I called him up and we talked a bit about things and this is what he offered me. Of course I accepted. Toaster777, if you want I can talk to the guy and see if he can help you too. As a former sales person (not Shaw), I'm sure he'll appreciate the sale. This is what I was offered and accepted. Offered: Basic Cable: Reg: $32.95 - Limited time offer of $19.95 for 6 months. Tier 3: Reg: $55.95 - Limited time offer of $39.99 for 6 months. HD Package FREE for 6 months PLUS HD PLUS FREE for 6 months. Full package FREE for 2 months PLUS a FREE HDPVR. I of course accepted and once the two months is up, I'll just take the basic cable package @ $19.99 plus the FREE HD stuff for 6 months. He also mentioned that the Digital TV package was included with the Basic Cable package for $19.99 for 6 months. I'd but a dumbass if I said no to this!! Hope this information helps you all. Cheers! |

My buddy recently got a free HDPVR by exchanging it for an old dish he got on craigslist - he never even bothered to sign up for sat. service. I was going to do the same, but I stumbled on this thread, so instead I called today and asked what promotions they were currently offerning. I told them that I had just gotten a new HDTV (Pioneer 5080
I was told there was no free PVR or any type of free digital box. I mentioned the Telus promo and she just said "sorry, we have no such offer". She also stated that there was no discount on the HD package for current customers. I waited a few minutes and called again, this time choosing the option to "cancel service". I asked how much notice I needed to cancel (I didn't want to just threaten to stop it immediately in case they called my bluff). She said they only needed two days and asked me what date I wished to end the service. I thought I was hooped, but I told her it was just an inquiry at the moment as I had to schedule my Telus TV hookup. Then she offered me a free rental of the HDPVR for a year and told me that after that year it was mine to keep. In addition she knocked cable/internet bill from $99 to $59 for a year and added the HD Plus package. She didn't pressure me to take the deal and offered to make a note on my account if I wanted to think about it for a few days. Knowing it was a fair offer, I signed up there and then. I can't wait to pick it up tomorrow. PS I live in the Greater Vancouver area. |

I have a DCT 6200, I would like to trade it in for a HD PVR. Do you think Shaw would take my 6200 and give me a new PVR for free? I am using their TV and internet package (Extreme 1), I think I am a loyal customer. Any advice as to what I should do? Bring up Telus and Bell in my conversation?

Short answer is no. I'd be surprised if they did, because then everyone would do it. They'll take it in trade though.

I disagree Nanuuk. What I'd recommend is call them, be as friendly as possible. Ask them when your next bill statement ends. Then when she tells you the date, write it down and say... ok so WHEN I want to cancel my TV service it would be best to do it a day before?? And she'll be like... yes... is there a reason why your cancelling? Say something like... well, someone from Bell Express Vu came by and offered me an HDPVR with 6 months of free HD service if I sign a 2 year contract and to be honest, I'd like to have HD service. Then she'll be like sir... we have HD... then she might make the offer from there.

I paid about a 100 to get my 6218 upgrade to a hdpvr 3416 model I think it is. Basically you can only get the hdpvr if you're a new/returning customer or you swapped a satellite reciever for it.
However you can call them up and tell them you're thinking about leaving, and mention bells deal, in which they'll send you to the cancellation department. Give the same details them, and you might be able to get them to give you the hdpvr for 299. Thats what I ended up doing, and they gave me 200 trade in value on my regular hd box, so it was 106.50 after tax to upgrade. wasn't a free upgrade, but it got my recording capabilities none the less. |

hmm, sounds like there are a few variations of this free HD PVR thing, but I tried, and again, no dice. It's like they disavow any knowledge of this offer. The friend who told me about this lives in a complex in d/t Vancouver, whereas I live in a basement suite, so maybe this offer is only good for people living in apartment complexes?
