Hey all,
I just wanted to let you all know that there IS a way to get a free HDPVR from Shaw. You just have to switch from Bell! I am moving to a new apartment on the 1st that does not allow Satellite, so after I cancelled my Bell service I called Shaw to start the moving procedure, and after informing the CSR that I jsut cancelled my Bell service, she informed me that I could get a free SD digital terminal and a HDPVR!! And this is a real "free". I could cancel tomorrow and still own them! It is possible, just order BellTv, then move, and get Shaw again :P Cheers! |

I've gotten this promo a couple times (once for my parents and once for myself). Both times it was with a Pace Aspen. I also was offered a Whistler once. I tried to push them to a Pace Summit (with a couple different reps) but was refused. They said that they're not gong to offer new hardware for $250.
I'm pretty happy with the Aspen, with the exception of issues I'm having with its search functions. |

Got the whistler. Is that better, newer than the Aspen?

The Whistler is newer. The Aspen lacks an analog tuner, and decodes MPEG4.

I received a call from Shaw last week offering a free HD PVR and 2 months no charge viewing if I switched from Bell TV. I can have this for a month to see if we like it. The CSR clarified in answer to my question that we would not own the receiver and it would have to be returned if we left Shaw. Installation is this Friday.

Well here in Winnipeg, thanks to MTS, we are always getting offers in the mail for free HD-pvr's. Might have to take them up on that offer sometime. Especially now that they are also apparently offering internet for like $9.95 for 12 months.

In regards to Shaw's free HDPVR offers, they aren't really free, only rent free for 12 months and then you pay a pretty hefty rental fee, at least I think. Anyhow, it looks like i'll be taking them up on their offer. $9.95/mo for internet and $9.95/mo for phone, plus sort of free HDPVR is a pretty good deal.

Shaw sent us a winback letter, (even though we are long time triple play customers), and it offered free HD PVR + free dct700 + basic cable + digital phone lite (with unlim NA long distance for a year) + high speed lite for $50 a month for a year.
Since we were already customers we did not qualify, but the guy was able to give us a PVR for free for a year OR $15/month off of high speed internet. We took the free PVR for a year, can't wait till tommorow to pick it up |

Well, we will be getting phone/tv/internet hooked up with Shaw at the end of the month and i'm looking forward to it too, especially getting a pvr. Too bad it will cost like $20/month after a year for rental or like $15/month for financing. I think I will just buy it out at $298 though.

I just got a call from Shaw last night, they were offering TV HD Package with "free" HD-PVR, Extreme Internet, shaw home phone for $79 a month for 12 months... I guess MTS' 12 month offer for TV + HD-PVR + Internet and Phone for $79.99 a month has made their customer department worried...
MTS has had the $80 promo since 2006 and this is my 3rd 12 month promo with them (first 2 years was back to back, had to go to Shaw for 6 months -since they only offer 6 months promos, then came back to MTS)... I guess $80 a month is the most I'll pay for TV/Internet/Phone for now on... $80 a month is still high IMO, but it is reasonable enough than regular prices of $150 for Shaw (and MTS)... |

I have two offers that came in Nov 12, 2009 mail. One from Shaw one from MTS. I currently have Shaw Phone (lite) & HS Internet on a $46/mth promo and Bell for TV.
Shaw offer - $84.95/mth/12 mths for Extreme Internet, Basic Phone (free LD north america 1 yr) and Digital TV with HD Plus, free HD-PVR for 1 year and free DCT700 for 1 year MTS offer - $72/mth/12 mths with 1st mth free for HS Internet Lightning, Phone essentials (free LD n/a), Ultimate TV Basic & 9 themes, 2 free HD boxes and whole house PVR free for the your entire time with MTS. They both continue to fight over clients. MTS is cheaper BUT Shaw's install and cabling schema is way easier for most customers. MTS requires cat5 to the first connection then coax. Shaw's installers can be better in many ways, but you occasionally get a real LOON. Vis |

Hello everyone, just thought I would share an update...
I called CS today and explained that I thought I could get a better deal through Telus. The CSR told me that I was already getting a good deal with some promotions that were on my account still. So I was about to hang up then I mentioned that I would like a PVR. The rep placed me on hold then after a few minutes she came back and told me that she set an install time to have my free PVR installed. The catch? Nothing!!! FREE PVR for three years. Just sharing my 2 cents... |

Been there, done that. It all sounds good, but you end up with a piece o' junk Pace Aspen that will break down in the first week, and the sound of the fan will drive you nuts. You are better off getting a discount on your services for 3yr, and buying your own used PVR. Krunk |
