Hey All,
I just re-signed up for the 9242 HD PVR from Bell. I have a bell rep coming to install my new receiver and new dish. I currently have a couple Bell receivers thru a sub, but I also have an FTA all hooked up picking up Bell and Dish. Is it ok to leave this up and running or should I tear the FTA apart and put it away until after the Bell install? I am not sure if this is something I should highlight being out in the open. Can anyone please advise? Thanks Str8

Disconnect the fta reciever for now would be a safe idea.

It's not grey at all. It's theft.

I would hide everything, the FTA and the receivers you are account sharing (how else would you explain them)?
Isn't this only common sense!!! Your breaking the law and violating the customer service agreement after all. |

Not sure Bell would do something (like calling the cops), but I had many cases where the client had a Dish or Direct TV dish on his roof and Bell took it down when they installed.
In one case I had to debate over an hour with a neibourgh cause when they installed app.3 dish they saw a Dish dish and took it down. The Dish belonged to app.5 and the men living there was pretty upset. He made the tech call Bell and was debating with me that tech has to put the Dish back. He told me he would call the cops, and I encouraged him to do so, mentionning to him that it was illegal to import Dish to Canada

That installer was in the wrong when he removed the other dish. That is private property and he could be charged with theft or mischief. However, he would be within his rights to report the illegal dish. OTOH, I could report a dozen illegal dishes just by walking around the block. Not even the police would do what that installer did without more evidence.
As for the new install, it depends on the installer. Ownership of a FTA receiver is not illegal. I wouldn't leave it turned on and tuned to EV or Dish though. You could end up with a bill from EV or even a conviction for signal theft. OTOH, you could end up with a new HD FTA receiver. It all depends on the installer. |

It is not always illegal to have a dishnet/DirectTV dish and receiver in Canada. I installed 8 to 10 legal dishnet setups as, for an example, it is how REmax trains their newbie. It was an official work order from Dishnet through Keypoint. I was also sent to 25-30 DirectTV installs for NHL players. All of them done legally.

Digitial Home Canada does not condone signal theft. Any discussions in this area are not tolerated.
