Hi There,
I'd like to get some feedback on an issue I'm having with hooking up my PS3. I have a new sharp 46'' LCD, a Denon AVR 588 with Energy take 5's. I just got a PS3 for my blue-ray dvd and to play some games. Here's my senario. Sound works fine - I have an optical cable from the PS3 to the reciever and set the input to Opt 1 for DVD. Excellent sound. I have an HDMI cable running from the HDMI-Out on the reciever to the TV, and from the PS3 into HDMI-1. I have set the input for DVD as well. The issue is - when the HDMI is connected through the reciever, there is no picture. When however I hook it from the PS3 to the TV, everything is fine. I need to hook everything through the reciever however, to accomodate my cable. Has anyone had this problem before? I'm thinking it may be something to do with setting the reciever inputs etc, but I've tried labelling Aux-V etc, but nothing is working. Assistance would be greatly appreciated. -Heb |

Try the other HDMI input on the AVR? On many AVRs the HDMI input needs to be "assigned" and needs to be "told" to use HDMI in the setup menu. How long are each of the HDMI cables and what gauge are they?
Also, check out the following post on HDMI issues and the things to check: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=71112 See the following post for newbies to the forum: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=57741

Yep, I tried both in-ports. I also assigned the inputs but to no avail. I had my pioneer upconverting DVD player hooked up before that with the same cables, and there were no issues.
I'm thinking it doesnt want to recognize a game console through there, or its some sort of signal issue. Has anyone had this problem? |

I think you need to setup the PS3 to output on the HDMI cable.
You might even have to use composite or s video first to change the PS3 output! John |

Hebford, did you resolve your problem?
I'm looking at the same receiver and also have a Sharp (LC-46D82U) and PS3 and wanna know ahead of time if there is a bigger issue here than just a connection problem. Cheers. |

Hey Tiger, check out my review of the 788, which is in the same model range, but accepts audio input over HDMI. I use it with my PS3 for audio/video with no issues. I can't imagine the 588 would be the same
