Default NOvus: Global HD Vancouver Added

Global HD Vancouver was recently added, channel 172, although I could tune to the channel last night and the night before I could not get audio or video.

Global HD (CHAND) Ch172 was added to our guide June 2, however Global has been experiencing stability problems from their end. They are presently waiting for a part to rectify the problem. As soon as they repair their feed you will be able to tune to that channel. Hopefully it will be available shortly.

Looks like Global Vancouver (172) is working now.

I have just plain old enhanced cable with the coax from the wall going straight to my 1080p TV (Lame, I know, I'm waiting for my HD PVR) and when i tune into channel 112-2, I get Global HD. How is this possible? The shows are in widescreen 1080i and HD picture quality.

Because your cable company has put Global-HD on channel 112.2, at least temporarily and maybe just for testing, and your TV has a QAM tuner that can pick it up. It may disappear at any time, though.

If you are curious you can try connecting an antenna to your TV and see if you are able to pick up CBC-HD on channel 58.1, CTV-HD on channel 33.1, and Global-HD on channel 22.2. They are broadcast free over the air from a tower on Mount Seymour. No cable company or box required. You might have to switch from "Cable" to "Antenna" in your TV settings for this to work.
