wow.. how many times are people going to milk that subject? - referring to the journalism, not you james

Actually we should probably even just post this in the other thread with the other articles saying the exact same thing (like here http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=81313)

Did the big lady start breathing again?

Seriously, articles like this just want to make me wait a bit longer before buying BLueray. Having been burnt once (with HD-DVD), I kinda learned a valuable lesson here.

With how well DVD is entrenched, the only way for Blu-Ray to REALLY come out on top is to be selling players for $199 or less by this Christmas and for the cost of BD movies to be the same as DVDs at new release ($25 - $30) at the MOST. My kid could care less if Diego is in HD so there is NO WAY I am going to pay a content premium for stuff like that. I only ever plan on buying ONE copy of a movie. Not a BD and a DVD of the same thing. NO WAY, NO HOW.

The Blu-Ray people also NEED to start producing in car players and so on ASAP and for a reasonable price. Not $1000.

Until then, people like me that are WELL entrenched into the DVD world with multiple HTPCs, standalone players and in-car players are just not going to move.

Yeah if players stay at 399 i wouldn't be surprised it if never catches on really.

Mortage, gas, food or a blu ray player... the majority these days will pick the first 3.

We've only began into a terrible finincial mess.

I'm surprised to say this but HDM has become really boring since the end of the format war. Perhaps it's just the lack of good movies.

Agreed, I just buy up old stuff on HD DVD that's dirt cheap. There haven't really been any new releases on BD or HD that have interested me in a LONG time.

I also have to agree. I think it won't really heat up until this fall.

Why would you need an in car high def player?
Is the screen large enough so that you would notice?

Simple answer. You don't want to buy both formats. So, if you only have the Blu-ray version of the movie, you need the appropriate hardware to play it back.

It doesn't matter if you're talking about a 13" in your sons room or a 6" portable DVD player in the back of a car seat. You need the ability to play the movie even if the output doesn't make a difference.

It probably doesn't help that the big day and date movies I want in HD aren' being released (damn you Paramount, get off your ass already!)

I used to waste my day away on highdefdigest waiting for new info... now I actually have to get work done to pass the time!

I watched Knocked Up last night and it was for sale, cheap in HD, at HMV today.
