"The network says the TV distributors try to get around regulations by claiming the Canadian broadcaster's high-definition signals are inferior, and therefore simultaneous substitution is not required." Usually it is not a "claim" but a "fact" He doesn't mention that CTV only has HDTV capabilities in 2 markets in Canada, so why should anyone outside those areas be forced to watch CTV? |

CTV is upset with Bell? hmm. That's funny since both have same parent company.

Bell has a minority ownership of CTV. That's why the name changed from BellGlobemedia to CTVGlobemedia.
The dispute is over free carriage of signals by cable distributors and recouping this money.

This just gets more laughable every week.
If you're so poor, stop buying out your competitors for 1.7 billion!!!! |

Almost all of the MSO's simsubbed the CTV-HD feed over the US feed in the areas required by Law.
For example in the GTA, Rogers, Cogeco, Source Cable, Mountain Cable, Aurora Cable, StarChoice and Bell simsubbed the SuperBowl. The Superbowl was also simsubbed in the Vancouver area on Bell and Shaw Cable. So what exactly are the complaining about? I'm sorry but a Toronto or Vancouver station has no rights to a market such as Edmonton or Calgary. Their coverage wouldn't be so bad, if they would just play the entire game feed in it's entirety. Both Global (and now CTV) cut away from the feed early and come back late to avoid promo announcements for US channels. Is it really that big of a deal if that gets played on a Canadian channel? It's not like we don't know they are getting their feed from (insert US network here). |

Hopefully this backfires on CTV with the CRTC ruling that no provider can sim sub the hd CTV channel over the American hd channel outside of Vancouver and Toronto. This should apply year round, not just for the super bowl. Last year's super bowl was the only time I didn't get the CTV hd sim sub on ExpressVu. So, if you could do it then, why not all the time.

EV does not have the capacity to supply all the US network feeds the way they did for the Super Bowl. They could just black out the US signals in Toronto and Vancouver but that would likely cause major support headaches. In case anyone hasn't noticed, EV is very pro Canadian broadcaster in its policies and doesn't really care about what consumers would like. Bell may only have a minority interest in CTV now but they still act like they own a major financial interest (and in Global for that matter.)

Why can't EV provide clean feeds outside of Toronto and Vancouver like they did for the Superbowl. I'm sure technically they can, although it would be more costly and more work for them.
Rogers still should not be simsubbing in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, and they continue to do so, yet, they have clearly stated that KW is not part of the Toronto area. |

Do I miss a point here?
Or do the execs? When I sit down to watch a sports event. I look at the listing and it says, SUPERBOWL, NFL I sit down and watch it, commercial break, I get up, go to the bathroom, get a beer, back when the commercial is over. I did not see a listing as WATCH US COMMERCIALS, with football breaks. If the US commercials are so good to watch, make a 30 program after the football event and put them all in there. I believe that is I am forced to watch commercial for garbage that I cannot buy here, they should pay me for it. But the execs, would like to make you pay for the event and then charge extra because we will give you US commercials. No thanks, I'll watch something else or grab a book. |

It's no secret that the US Super Bowl commercials are very popular. In some cases some folks watch the game for the commercials.

Well, there's a lot of American corporations who advertise during the Superbowl that operate in Canada. Sure, some of the promos they'll have won't be the same here, but still, it's brand awareness. Yeah, I know they don't pay the rates to advertise in Canada either, but still, they should realize that they do have cross-border appeal (in most cases).
