finecuts, I cannot confirm what works on the Pace. I have provided direction on what works on the SA8300HD in post 27 and was trying to advise that the expansion, if you get your own 500 GB HDD and case can be done for less than $150. As far as I know, the maximum that anyone has done successfully on the SA8300HD is 750GB - that is confirmed in one of the links in post 1 of that thread, where all of the various "successes" and "failures" are listed.

http://www.baseportal.com/baseportal/xnappo/main

With a 750 plus the internal 160, that would give over 100 hours of HD recording and probably more since some of the Shaw channels are 3 channels per QAM. Good Luck.

PS, none of the "MyBook" or similar drives that have drive management software would work on the SA8300HD because the drive needs to be on 24/7. I cannot comment on if they'd work on the Pace, although I thought the Pace representative who was here said that they would... He may have been mistaken since you couldn't get it to work.

It might not have worked as the 1TB WD My Book has USB2, Firewire and eSATA. It seems like this causes a problem with the Pace. At least with the My Book's. I will give it one more try tonight before I order the WD drive and the Vantec enclosure.

Thanks for your help,

Trevor

Just to add my $.02 -

I used a Western Digital Caviar (WD6400AAKS) 640GB SATAII drive with a Vantec NexStar3 NST-360SU-BL enclosure. I used the included e-SATA cable.

It worked perfectly, just as described. Powered off the Pace, a minute later unplugged it, 2 minutes later plugged in the new drive and enclosure and plugged the Pace back in. It formatted the drive, and my used space dropped from 67% to 13%.

This enclosure has both e-SATA and USB 2.0, and was purchased in Canada.

Thanks to both of you.

I just ordered the WD7500AAKS hard drive and the same Vantec enclosure that Anklefoot used. I will provide an update after everything arrives next week.

I ordered a new NexStar3 NST-360SU-BK (black) enclosure from a place in Vancouver, Canada and received it today. It works perfectly with the 500gb Seagate drive I have.

I had an earlier revision of this same model (esata and usb, with identical paint job and labels) and it didn't work. The internals of the newer enclosure are different than the older one I have.

Where did you order it from? What kind of price did you get?

Thanks.

The MyBook 500 GB version works. One thing you might want to be careful of is the eSATA cable you use - I've found that there are cables of varying quality out there and some simply do not work.

Default Pace PVD eSata success

Hello,

Purchased the Vantec NexStar3 NST-360SU and a Seagate 750GB barracuda with 32 MB buffer.

The Vantec is a really nice kit. Has eSata cable, assembles easy even has an sata to esata adapter should decide to later use this drive with a PC and only have an internal sata.

Plugged in as described and all is well. Only thing different is that I wasn't asked if I wanted to format the drive it just did it.

Bought everything locally in Winnipeg.

Installation
1. Pace PVR must be disconnected at the time an e-SATA drive is connected.
What is meant by disconnected? Does it mean you need to disconnect the cable wire, unplug the DVR or both?

What is the largest e-SATA drive supported on Pace Tahoe TDC775D?
A Tahoe can support drives up to 1600GB (1.6 Terabytes). However, the largest e-SATA drive tested and verified is 750GB.
Pace Recommended e-SATA drives
So has anyone had anything more than 750GB recognized? I am looking at some 1TB drives at the moment but don't want to waste my money.

It has been reported that only 750 GB external drive can be recognized by the Pace 775. So 160GB internal +750 GB external will give you @ 100 Hrs. of HD.
