I assume this is only for games in Canada since it's illegal to use in the USA.
Besides, there is no such thing as a Bell PVR. |

I find this VERY hard to believe
With all the record/playback issues, I think they would be using a more stable setup When it rains, and satellite signal is lost, how do they do an instant replay? Good advertising, but I believe this story like I believe in the Tooth Fairy Very misleading article, but par for the course "With exceptional HD picture quality, capacity to record 200 hours of programming" Wow, thats a big hard drive, to be able to record 200 hours of HD! |

NHL Video Replay office aka the "War Room" is in Toronto, Individual rinks do not require this as they have the feeds from all cameras right there.

Regardless, it is not illegal to use ExpressVu in the USA.

Well, it is illegal but that's a subject for another thread (and it has been discussed many times).
Anyway, since it's all coming out of Toronto, it's not a legal issue but a PR issue. Using a consumer product in a professional setting is embarrassing for the NHL IMHO. |

ANY HD PVR will do fine, its just the playback unit.
The important thing is receiving the video in the best available resolution from the best available camera angles. |

The larger problem isn't the quality of the gear, but the fact the league is still depending on the broadcasters to cough up the correct replays in a timely manner. Apparently the NHL is working on ways to get direct feeds from many of the key cameras. That way they would not be dependant on decisions made in production trucks that could alter the outcome of a game.

I watched a show on the NHL "war room" last winter and they showed Bell 9200's and Dishnetwork 942's. There were like 6 or 7 of each that they showed.

But depending on a PVR (I haven't had the pleasure of using the 9242, but have been told it is similar to the 9200) that cannot rewind/fast forward frame by frame, would seem silly, seeing as there is technology available to do it Its good marketing, I guess, but I think it would be silly to not use better technology, seeing as it is available Have you ever tried to rewind to do your own instant replay, it can be frustrating at times Pausing, then jumping to live, then rewinding again.... |

you should check your box again, the 9200 and 9242 is capable of doing frame by frame. |
