Lightbulb Wireless Keyboard.

So, a quick update before I go on: Most new video cards will support 1080i/1080p output, which means that most modern TV's should have no trouble showing the proper output. It's a matter of getting the right graphics card, not the right TV.

Now, What I'm interested in is the control mechanism. I have (or rather I will have, once I fork out the money and take the plunge) a 40" HDTV monitor in my family room, connected to my computer which is on top of the stairs (but still visible from the family room). I want to control that computer with a keyboard while sitting on my couch eating Doritos. The distance between the couch and the computer is 20' as the paper airplane flies. I could also run a wire to the couch, but that would be over 40' long. I'm thinking I'd like to do it with a wireless keyboard, but I'm wondering if they have that sort of range/reliability. Can anybody give any suggestions (particular brand names/models would also be helpful).

Thanks

John

Some keyboards and mice have that range. Look for better quality (i.e. more expensive) models from Gyration and Logitech. Get twice the range you actually require for decent reliability (i.e. 40' if you are 20' away.) Double that again for intervening walls and obstructions. I have both a Logitech mouse and a Gyration keyboard/mouse combo. They all work fine at 10' but YMMV. The base unit/dongle must be away from the PC with line of sight for maximum range. Mine are hidden behind the center speaker.

I own the Adesso SlimTouch Wireless 2.4 GHz RF Mini Touchpad Keyboard. It works really well, doesn't require drivers, and has a reported range of up to 100 feet. I haven't really tested the range much as I'm using it in a small room though.

I use a Logitech EX 90. It works through a wall and is good for more than 20'. It's simple and cheap but I think the only place in Canada that has it is ... I got mine on a deal day for half price and should have bought a couple.

My Rocketfish Bluetooth Keyboard/mouse combo easily does 30feet through floors (of course it's hard to see what you're doing) Find it at Bestbuy or Futureshop for about 100 bucks. It also allows other bluetooth devices to connect to it's network and the mouse and keyboard controls most common players. The keyboard controls volume while the mouse controls play, stop, pause. Very handy.
