Default Power supply temp. fix .

In reguard to the TH-42PZ800U by Panasonic and the much reported problem both here and other sites with their power supply shutting down with a blinking on and off power light.
I have one of these and have this problem showing after about 1 year of use.
After viewing the TV and turning it off, and wanting to turn back on after a short while, it refuses with either the remote or at the set itself, to turn on. Instead it flashes the power light on and off in my case 10 times indicating a power supply problem.
I find it must be off about an hour and a half before it will respond.
I found a way around this with the following.

Unplug the power cord - on the receiver front panel push in and hold in the power button and then while holding it in plug the a/c plug back into a source.
Release the power button - turn the button back on at the receiver front panel and it will power on.
Push the "Return" button on the remote to clear the menu screen.

so I have the TH-58PZ800U that I bought in 2008. Just last week, a black bar running vertically halfway up the screen on the left side appeared. I had a tech come in and he says I need a new screen altogether. I will hear back from him tomorrow on the cost. *gulp* Has anyone else had this problem?
The tech simply came in and look at the screen and gave his diagnoses. I wish he were wrong.

^ ^ ^I had a similar problem with my 2 year old 46pz80 -which is one step down from your model. The panel was shot. TV can't be fixed.

Sorry, but it sounds like you have to buy another TV.

I have a 50PZ800U, also purchased in 2008 that wouldn't turn on and had 7 blinks on the power light. It was supposed to be a problem with one of three boards. Tech came over, troubleshot the boards but in the end he found the panel had a few pixels that "burnt". Says need new panel .. didn't even get a quote as it's not economical to replace a panel.

Panasonic Concierge service opened a "file" for a out of warranty replacement. Turned out to be the biggest joke. After digging out the receipt from 3 years ago, they came back and offered $300 off MSRP on a current model: 50S30 or 50ST30 - pretty much their low end models that retail at $1,199 or $999. As a side note, can walk into Best Buy and get an ST30 off the floor at the same "discounted" price. Worse part of this was the tone of the call centre making it sound like they were doing me a huge favour or that I could just buy another TV myself from a store.

Only 3 years old - top of the line TV set at the time. $3,000 out the door + a over $200 repair bill. Supposedly panel issues are a rare occurence.

Sad story, been loyal Panny fan for a while, picked up last year's top end 65VT25 set. After this experience, never going Panasonic again.

Good luck with yours.
