Next week's DLC is a 6-pack of Grateful Dead songs:

* "Hell In a Bucket"
* "Don't Ease Me In"
* "Cold Rain & Snow"
* "Doin' That Rag"
* "Fire On the Mountain"
* "Uncle John's Band"

On the 360, it will cost 160 points per track, or all 6 for 880.

Hmmm. Another dry week of DLC for the under 50 crowd.

I meant to reply to Wayne earlier too. I think the Who is an exception to the rule as what they released was a complete "Best Of" package; of course it has all (most) of the tracks Who fans want. I think for every band you say Harmonix did right, I could find two where the track pack contains a single good song (and not the bands "best" song either) and 2 crappy ones. For example, I appreciate all the Nirvana in the game(s), but seriously, Nevermind without Lithium and Smells Like Teen Spirit? The 2 songs that would have made non-fans buy that track pack were left out.

I agree with go11um on this one. There are exceptions, but a lot of the time they are putting in either crappy songs, or songs that few average people know (yes, die-hard fans of a group know all their songs, but not everyone does). Include more of a band's hits (for example, songs you probably heard on the radio).

Also, when you release an "album" it should have all the songs (heck, even though I'm not a big Nirvana fan, I would have at least bought "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Lithium").

I think it has much more to do with the record labels and the costs involved with licensing the 'hits' than Harmonix being able to choose titles.

Give it a little more time for the labels to realise that they are sitting on a potential goldmine, they've proven they time and again that they need it.

As Deckster says, it has to be the record labels. Either they want to charge too much for the big songs, or just outright refuse to license them.

A lot of times is has more to do with being able to secure the master recordings. In the case of The Who - they managed the rights to secure all of the Masters for 'Who's Next" but when the masters were retrieved from the vault they discovered that half of them are just plain missing.

This week's upcoming DLC...

Quote:
We're busting out a 3 pack of Thin Lizzy anthems from their new live cd, and backing that up with classic singles from The Pretenders and Pat Benatar, as well as two tracks from Nikko!

Here's the full scoop:

Thin Lizzy - Boys Are Back In Town (Live)
Thin Lizzy - Cowboy Song (Live)
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak (Live)
The Pretenders - Precious
Pat Benatar - Hit Me With Your Best Shot
Nikko - Break My Heart
Nikko - Don't Tell Me

All tracks are original master recordings.

These tracks will be $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points) a piece, or $5.49 (440 Microsoft Points) for the Thin Lizzy 3 pack, with the exception of the Nikko tracks which will run $0.99 (80 Microsoft Points) each.

You can find these songs in the Xbox Live Marketplace on Tues Feb 3rd, and in the Playstation Store on Thurs Feb 5th.

Didn't recognize any of these songs by name...

This week we're releasing a 3 pack from The Fratellis, featuring tracks from their 2006 album Costello Music!

Here's the track listing

The Fratellis - Creeping Up the Back Stairs
The Fratellis - Flathead
The Fratellis - Henrietta

All tracks are original master recordings.

These tracks will be $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points) a piece, or $5.49 (440 Microsoft Points) for the full 3 pack.

All three are catchy. I think I'll get the whole pack.

Default Yes! Yes! YES!

Finally!

Quote:
This week we’re announcing three new DLC tracks from two bands new to the RB set list. You get one track from Turbonegro, and two from White Zombie. Here’s the songs coming at you next week:

Turbonegro – Wasted Again

White Zombie – More Human Than Human

White Zombie – Black Sunshine

All tracks are original master recordings.

These tracks will be $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points) a piece.

You can find these songs in the Xbox Live Marketplace on Tues Feb 17th, and in the Playstation Store on Thurs Feb 19th.
I imagine that More Human Than Human will have to be the edited for Radio version, but Black Sunshine should remain untouched. Can't wait!

Possibly. They've released 2 already, with about 20 songs each. Does anyone really want to buy them is the question. I've looked at the song list and, for me anyway, I'd only really want 1/4 to 1/2 of the tracks in the pack. So far they haven't included 2 songs by the same artist either, so if you're into White Zombie (for some unknown reason) you're better off buying the DLC.

I resemble that remark sir!

As many suspected, More Human Than Human is the stripped down radio edit.

The surprise to me is Black Sunshine. HMX kept all the sound samples, although they were buried deeper in the mix. I really wasn't expecting the clips from Faster Pussycat Kill Kill! to make it into the game. They also added some vocal effects to give the song a more psychedelic feel, especially near the end. The difference between Hard and Expert (on guitar at least) is larger than normal. Playing on Hard was easy. I had to go up to Expert to get the feeling that I was really playing along.
