I was advised by Shaw (Nanaimo as well as Jasonb) to wait 45 minutes before Activating. I plugged in and called right away without any problems. I have not noticed any noise thus far.

Just got mine yesterday. A couple of resets early on, but since it's been fine. No loud noises yet **knocks wood**. But messages are all screwy. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with the box.

I just need to replace my crappy receiver. Both audio options HDMI and optical hickup when I change channels from HD to SD

Here's an odd incident with my Pace PVR. Played back a recording. At the end there was no "delete?" prompt, which usually shows up. Instead the unit froze. And it froze completely. No response from any remote commands. No response from any panel buttons. And, quite a surprise, no response from the power button on the unit! I had to unplug, and replug, to resolve the freeze. Only happened once.

I have two boxes that also make the wirling whining klunking noises. The other three are quiet in standby, but when powered on WOW, talk about LOUD noises!!!!!!!

Same thing happened to me, program ended, no option to delete, then it froze. I had to unplug the box to reset it.

My box also started making the noise last night. I've had it for about 1 1/2 weeks and the noise level was not a problem until last night when it started making the clicking/whirring noise.

Well tomorrow I will be exchanging my unit. The box keeps resetting. I bought it Friday and it literally reset every 5 minutes for about 2 hours. Then It reset every 2 hours. Saturday it reset twice, and sunday it reset once. Monday it reset 2 times, once during a recording. The shaw tech put a note on my account to allow exchange. I really hope the new unit does not reset 100 times. Pace has given me a bad taste right now, and I would rather just buy a second moto HD non-pvr box for stability. Lets hope the second time is the charm.

Did you check the S/N ratio to see if it's adequate at your home? Check out the other tips.

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=21274

Remove any upstream splitters, etc to ensure a good signal, just as a test.

Make sure it's well-ventillated. Heat is a killer for STBs

Yup, we checked that with the shaw tech. I have a non-pvr box in the living room and it worked perfectly in the bedroom room and works perfectly in the living room. I just came back from the exchange and WOW. Called shaw, they hit the box and boom got my cable and not 1 reset. Night and Day difference.

How do you use the zoom function? Above the # key it says HD/ZOOM but does nothing.

When you're on an HD channel that is letterboxed (SD content in widescreen format) you can use the zoom button to bring it out to full screen, with some loss of resolution.

It's working for me...

Does anybody else notice that this STB makes noise when on or off? Could it be because I have only left one inch above the unit for ventilation? I also notice that it takes 30 seconds or so to turn on (via the remote) after I have turned the TV on first. Sometimes I can't even turn on the STB with the remote at all. Should I call Shaw and get it replaced?

SKY: Bet you have an LCD - see:

Turn the STB on first?

On some of the HD channels I do get the black bars at the side. Pushing the zoom button does nothing at all on any chanel.

I am also not using a TV but a Optoma HD70 projector if that matters?

Takodo, you may wish to read the following on black bars:

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=76089

Are you pressing the # button itself? You may wish to reboot the STB (unplug/replug).

Since you have an FP, there's no need to stretch the picture, you have no concerns regarding burn in, so watch the 4:3 programming as 4:3, unstretched and undistorted.
