Nanaimo did go all digital but the current DCTs were not switched to the all digital map. Right now new all digital DCTs are being set to the all d map and customers who call in to be set to the map are also being changed over. There are bugs being worked out on the all d map though so you may want to hold off on switching just yet.

Hello,

I'm in Nanaimo too...

I've had a Shaw HDPVR for a couple of months now -- how do you tell if I have been switched to the "all digital map"?

Shaw Guru, you mention "bugs"... How long should we wait until we phone in and asked to be switch to all digital (if we haven't already been switched)?

Thanks,

Z

VOD was not working on the all digital channel map but that was corrected yesterday so you should be able to get switched to the All D map if you call in.
You know you are on all d if you do not get the TV Listings channel (ch. 2 in most markets).
Remember, when calling in the rep will have to add a code to your account and also reset your digital terminal.

Pace should be able to be on the All D map as well as it works on mine.

Got the Shaw HD PVR last weekend....

Now I haven't had a lot of time to play around with it, but I will post a couple of things, I read both this full thread and the potential buyers one.

- As for the fan issue, yeah its a little loud - no louder my PC, and its got a three yr warranty from Shaw so if the thing dies, they will replace it.

- I like the fact when you exit VOD, this box does not change the channel to 116 like all the motorola ones, it goes back to the last channel you were on.

- I like the ability to save your searches, but I haven't saved any as I have heard you can't delete them so I am scared to try.

- I like all the lights on the front showing which tuner you are on, and which one is recording

- I found the FF and REW features to be different than that of the DCT3080 in the main sense of when you pause and want to go frame by frame, the PACE box seems to jump 3 seconds at a time, whereas the Moto would go frame by frame

- Recording I have had no issues yet...(being the key word)

I can't comment on how great HDTV looks because I don't have an HDTV yet....(soon but not as of now) but I couldn't go wrong at the current price they are selling them at. Bought one off a buddy who got it at the home expressions show for $224 here in Winnipeg, and he decided to go to Bell..soon after so rather than taking the box back, I bought it.

I will post more once I have had more time to play around with it

Default Dolby Icon on Analog Channels?

I have the Pace HDPVR and was switched to the all-digital map yesterday.I noticed that the Dolby icon is not displayed on the previously analog channels also the listings channel (17) is still there. When I contacted Shaw they said this is normal for the Pace box. Has anyone else heard of this? I do have the all-digital FCS code on our account.

I had the same experience in Winnipeg with my Pace unit.

It took three calls to Shaw and a site visit by a tech before they were willing to admit that I was still on the analog amp and not digital (I had explained repeatedly to the CSR's about the lack of the digital icon on the id bar for channels 2 thru 60 or therabouts, the presence of the TV listing and broadcast news channels, analog type interference issues present, etc. but, in their opinion, as the all-digital FCS code appeared on my account summary, I was on the digital map.)

Long story short, when the on-site tech arrived he agreed immediately after seeing my display that I was in fact still on the analog map. Within half an hour of his visit the tech division remotely reset the unit and I was finally on the digital map [Digital icon now appears for all channels, TV listing channel untunable, etc.]

Default Pace 775D and All-digital map

Well I contacted Shaw again (4th time) and explained to CSR about being on the all-digital map but still not seeing the dolby icon on what should have been the previously analog channels. She went off to talk to someone else and after about 5 minutes came back and told me that I would not see the dolby icon because the Pace box only displays the analog channels in analog. If that is the case then what is the point of being on the all-digital map?

Call the TV Technical support line - do not call the main customer service line, and tell you want your box reset. If they ask why, say that the guide is not updating or you are missing channels....they will reset your box and you will say - oh thanks my channels are now working (even though they never were not working) and that should reset your box to be on the all digital map

does that help?

If you can see the TV listings channel in your area on your channel map you are still on the analog channel map. If the TV listings channel is gone, then you are on the all digital map

To find the TV listings channel in your area - http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/ProductsSer...nnelsInMyArea/

Hope that helps

Is anyone else experiencing this issue. Since I got the PACE PVR, I have two messages. The message (mail icon) comes on the display, I go in and delete the two messages and anywhere from 5 secs to a minute, the message icon re-appears and the same two messages are back in the message box. I can do this over and over and over and they keep coming back.
This same problem just started to happen to me too. I hope there will be a fix for this soon.

Does anyone know if it is ok to be put on the all digital map even though there are other tv's in the house not using a digital STB?

Thanks again shawguy, I did as you suggested and it worked. No listings channel and dolby icon on the previous analog channels.

Since the lineup change, I was having problems with my non-HD channels tuning properly. When I could see them, I would get odd noise that was mostly evident when the guide was on as random "white" pixels on the guide bar. They would typically come in unsynced for a while and then the TV would go to "No Signal"; guess it gave up after a while. I could generally make this go away for a while by unplugging the HDMI cable and plugging it in again, or by unplugging / restarting the PVR.

Today I got tired of messing with the HDMI cable and set the PVR not to send 480i or 480p. This seems to have "solved" the problem, but it bothers me that I can't use the TV's upconverter. It's not a super-great one (Regza 42LX177) but I think it's better than the PVR.

Thing is, with RF Bypass turned on, the channels would all tune properly on the TV. It's like the signal is marginal to the point that the PVR's processing makes it unpalateable to the TV. The S/N ratio appears OK though, generally good dipping into fair sometimes. The picture generally does appear a bit noisy, but that could be from anywhere.

Anybody else see the quality of non-HD channels decreasing? I wonder if this is from the extra bandwidth taken by the recent addition of the all-digital map in Nanaimo. I may see if I can exchange this box anyway and see if a new one helps. The noise is getting a bit annoying when watching quietly.

@shawguy: is that bit about no longer having the channel guide something that is set in stone, or is it possible that it was accidentally added to the digital map in Nanaimo?

The reason I'm asking is that I just had a CSR switch my two terminals over to the all digital map. He first said I needed a new DCT700, but after I asked a couple questions he went away for a few minutes and came back saying it was done. That could either mean that he went and asked someone else (which, if you ask me, is a sign of a good tech) or that I was being brushed off.

Both boxes were rebooted remotely; all TV Guide preferences like my favourites list and things like TV resolution capabilities on the Pace PVR were gone (but my recordings were intact) so it seemed like more than just unplugging the box. All of my analog channels are showing the Dolby Digital icon, and I'm seeing the digital blockiness when switching channels though I'm not sure if that's any indicator. When I go to the DCT2224's service menu, under current channel status (number 7) it shows the type as DIGITAL ENC. Also, PQ seems to be considerably better, but that could just be wishful thinking.

I still get the channel guide though.

Thoughts?

Hmmm... sorry if this is getting too off-topic.
