Default Any 9200 Owners with plasma comment on stretch mode

I am about to purchase the 65inch PZ750 panasonic plasma that just came out in fall. I will be coming from front projection, but I was just curious my front projector never had aspect ratio adjustments like strethch mode, I had to use the 9200 stretch mode which I thought did a pretty good job actually.

I was wondering if any flat screen owners use the stretch mode for SD on the 9200 with the plasma or could compare how good it is to your set stretching the picture. I assumed they would be similar but just wanted to see. I actually prefered the 9200 stretch on Samsung LNT2653 monitor/tv. But I just wanted to ask plasma users. Would I be correct assuming there wont be much difference.

You should continue to use the stretch mode on the 9200 - this automatically changes for incoming SD and HD. Since the 9200 only outputs one format, the TV would not know when you're on an SD or HD channel, so you'd have to stretch manually - a pain. The partial zoom on the 9200 is pretty good.

If you had a Rogers STB, the story could be different because it can be set to output an SD signal for the SD channels and you could use "Just" on the Panasonic.

I agree. If you use the television to do the stretching, the guide is going to get stretched as well which looks horrible. You should let the 9200/9242 do the stretching. I also find the Partial Zoom better than the stretch, it keeps things better proportioned.

IS there no way for bev hd receivers to output the native resolution of each channel, instead of having the bev receiver scale everything for us.

No, there isn't. As I stated though, the BEV PVR has a unique widescreen IPG, which would be a mess if the receiver didn't control the output to your television.

While breaking in my plasma (1st 2 months), I stretched all content and found the TV's JUST mode better than any of the 9200's stretch modes to watch SD. Downside is this also stretches 9200 guide but if you settle in to watch a SD show 1/2 hour or longer, JUST mode on the Panny is best IMO.

Too bad the 9200 forces you to choose an output instead of allowing "passthrough" mode since I believe the Panny plasma's video scaler is better than the 9200.

Today, I no longer stretch any shows and do not fear the black bars for a few hours at a time. Awesome set you're looking at, enjoy!
