Default Black bars

LG LCD TV and Rogers HD PVR box

when the shows are not in HD I get the black bars on the side. Is there a way to remove this. I don't want to have these bars burn an image into my TV

The way to eliminate them is to enable the stretch mode on your STB by pressing the # button on the remote.

You have an LCD TV and it doesn't get burn in, so for the best picture quality, leave the 4:3 images as 4:3. To stretch the image, you can press the # key repeatedly on the Rogers remote, however, the picture quality goes down and you have distortion of the image. Relevant links were already provided above. Some HDTVs also allow you to stretch incoming HD signals, but as stated above, it's not necessary.
