I don't know what was Castro's diagnosis, although a carcinoma is suspected, what I can't understand is why he had to be hospitalized for over a year. Could there not have been some out-of-hospital facilities available ? And, why the secrecy, especially now that he has resigned.

It will be very interesting to see how it unfolds with the leadership of Cuba after this.

My take on this is that him officially resigning is a way to try and make the transition more peaceful when he dies.

A good idea IMHO.

He's probably dead already. Last time I saw him on TV, was from a video taped a few months ago.

See, proof that US sanctions do work. All it took was about 50 years, poor health and retirement, and they removed Fidel from power! I bet they remove Raoul in half that time...

It will be interesting to see what the U.S. does now with regards to the sanctions imposed on Cuba. It's long overdue to accept the fact that Cuba is here to stay.

The US does business with China and Vietnam, both communist countries with poor human rights records so they should do the same with Cuba.
The sanctions only hurt the people not the gov't so open up and do business with them and let democracy sell itself.
Cuban exile voter's in Florida have a different opinion but makes sense to most.
