good evening,

I just scanned for global out in the cochrane area and i do not get a signal.

I get 43% on cfcn when wired through the splitter and 88% with a direct connect, but no global with either cable.

Exclamation CICT-DT Global Calgary temporarily at lower power

Global Calgary's technicians have had to keep their new DTV transmitter at 10% until Industry Canada comes in for an inspection. Until then the low level stays in effect, but assuming everything is ship shape the power will then be raised to 3,200 watts and another 3 weeks of testing will be done. Here is IC's entry for CICT-DT:

Code:
AB Calgary AU 41 CICT-DT INDE 510315 1140012 51.0 5000 632.00
I'm assuming that after the three weeks of testing at 3,200 they'll bump it up to the listed 5000 but I'll have to check on that.

good to hear about global edmonton. i hope i can get the signal all the way in north east edmonton. (fraser area) and its about time HD ota is available in edmonton. Now if CTV edmonton would stop crying about local tv and get there HD ota going i might tune into ctv more.

OK, did the power of the Calgary Global transmitter go down 90% after the launch or was it like that from the beginning? Those of you who are (were) receiveing it, are you still getting it fine?
I need to know for sure that people are receiving the signal before I start experimenting with new antennas.

Their news PQ is worse even in SD, so yeah. Many favourite shows are on Global so I would be happy.

Global Calgary (CICT) was a bit spotty for me from the beginning, and it was about the same last night, so I think they've been at 10% strength since launch.

As I understand it the 10% level was mandated from the very beginning by IC.

Here in Cedarbrae I was receiving Global between 50 and 60 percent for about an hour on Monday. The rest of the week I’ve only been getting 10 to 20 percent on the meter, not enough for a picture. That was with a bowtie antenna mounted in the window of our spare bedroom.

Today I made up a GH with no reflector and replaced the bowtie. I’m now getting a steady 40%. I get the odd dropout but I think that’s our tree in the front yard moving in the wind.

I’m planning on experimenting with a few more antenna builds before I commit to mounting something permanently in the attic.

Default Aim for Global Calgary now for later if it doesn't lock in

When a station is at such a flashlight-level ERP the likelihood of even very local heat inversions or other weather oddities can play havoc with the signals.

The great thing about most OTA signal meters on HDTVs is that even if you don't get a lock you can still aim your antenna properly with it. My advice to Arthur and all of you is to try to "peak" your antennas for Global now even if it doesn't lock so that as they increase power you'll already have the proper direction marked or preset.

Default Calgary: Garrison Green SW

Can get Global and CTV from my basement using this antenna.

Antenna is mounted on the wall inside and is the monoprice HD indoor/outdoor antenna

The signal for Global had been coming in fine here in Rundle with a pair of rabbit ears, but now I get no signal. Something must have changed.

Default OTA East of Calgary

Does any one know if their are retransmitters of the Calgary stations to the east of Calgary, and if so where are they? A colleague of mine was wondering about reception between Strathmore and Brooks, area.
