Default Yamaha YSP4000B

Seached the site for any hits on this unit, found none. I'm looking into this unit, here is a good link:

This unit has some very nice sound features as well as Video switching etc. Couple of questions:

Has anyone tried this unit - if so - any feedback would be great in terms of sound and video switching.

Do you think I need a subwoofer with it? I live is a 1000 SQ foot condo, hence the reason for reflecting surround.

I want to connect my 8300HD and my Xbox 360 via HDMI though this unit to my Samsung DLP that has one DVI input. Any thoughts on whether I may have issues with this setup - i.e. compatibility etc?

I plan to use my Harmony 659 to control this setup - I don't think this will be any issue.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

This may or may not work - you'll have to try and see. There have been a lot of issues with this type of connection, especially with DVI. See:

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=71112 You may end up needing to use component video, especially for the SA8300HD.

Also, by going "through" an AVR with your video connections, this precludes being able to calibrate the inputs on the TV separately for each component. Since you're going to have a Harmony remote that can do the switching, you may wish to consider separate connections - component video for the SA8300HD and HDMI/DVI for the 360?

Thanks for the feedback 57. One thing I can tell you is that for the first two years with my HD TV - I had my 8300 connected via component (It may have been the 8000). When I switched to HDMI I as astounded. I saw a noticeble difference. Note, I have had my HDTV calibrated on all ports. Also, I have monster component cables and a fairly low end HDMI-DVI cable. To me, there is a huge difference with respect to the SA box and whether to use component or HDMI.

To most people, there is no noticeable difference - with some people reporting slightly better PQ via CV, and some reporting slightly better PQ with HDMI. So it goes I guess...

Now back to the main purpose of this thread - your YSP... Here's a thread on sound bars:
