Default PS3 points Card

I want to buy some stuff from the PS3 store but I am not prepared to give them my credit card. I want to have control over any purchases made on my machine and don't feel comfortable giving them my credit card number.

I saw in the Playstation store that you can use points to buy these games. I have bought Wii points in store but have never seen any PS3 points for sale.

How do I get them?

PS3 points cards are already available in Japan (not that that helps you) but they will be available in NA in the comming months.

Why be afraid to give out your CC info? Haven't you ever bought anything online?

Of course I have and I resent your snide comments.

I don't want to give them my CC number because my kids or friends could accidentally order stuff online and I am stuck paying for them. I really don't want to create sub accounts and master accounts just to secure the process.

The points also allow my kids to buy the cards and buy the programs they want.

(i have deleted a bunch of silly off-topic posts goiing on ad nauseum about the safety of online transactions)

Hugh, I think you should be able to do a one-time "fill up" of your PSN account using your credit card, then remove the CC info. I got tired of adding money every time I wanted to buy something, so I put $50 on the account and used it until it was empty.

I plan on buying one of the PSN cards for the US store whenever they come out. I already have a US account, and I'm so sick of the extra $1 we pay in Canada. Paying $2.99 for something that's $1.99 on the US store ticks me off, so Sony hasn't gotten any of my money lately.

Gord

Thanks Gord, its a workaround but it should work. It begs another question - a U.S account eh? I should investigate that too!

You need the password entered each & every time you order .. that could help you. My PS3 was stolen about a month ago and I was worried about it and getting my CC info, but you can't access without password.

You can wait for that or you can use entropay which is a prepaid visa card that you can use on the US store.

I enabled the "log in" automatically feature to avoid hassles of trying to type in a password everytime I logged onto the PS3 network. I would not want to turn that off and then have to type it in just to browse.

You can have it setup that you don't need to put in a password to just login to the PS network (it remembers it) but still require a password to buy anything from the PS Store. This is how I have mine setup.

<sigh> I'm sure I can but as noted, I don't want too!

I want it to be just like Wii points which is the promise of PS3 points!

I sense that many of you don't have kids.

With Wii, if my kids want a downloadable game, they buy a Wii card and then they can do want they want. I don't have to oversee it and I don't have to worry about unwanted credit card charges. I also haven't given Sony carte blanche to bill my credit card without my knowledge.

That is the way I want it with PS3 hence why I want to buy PS3 points!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that having something like the Wii point cards would be the perfect solution but they don't have them yet it seems in Canada at least for the PS3.

I have kids but they are not old enough/interested enough in buying games from the PS store yet.

Further to what Hugh is asking about - does anyone know if you can actually remove your CC info once you give it to Sony?

I've never been able to find a way to remove my CC info from my 360. Because of that I had to add a password to my Live account, which is a pain sometimes.

Hugh. If you have a PayPal account, you can buy a single-use CC.
