I just acquired a new 3416 PVR and have the following questions:
1. In the PVR manual (page 7 or page 8) it says I can use the remote to set the PVR volume to 70%, and then use the TV remote to control the TV volume. But in reality the volume control on the PVR remote does not do anything (except when I coded it to control the TV). Is there really a volume control function on the PVR itself? If yes, how do I access it? 2. There is red recording light on the top right corner of the panel at the front of the PVR. It does not lit up when the PVR is powred on (even when it is recoding). However, it does lit up whenever the PVR is powered off. (regardless of whether the thing is recording or not). I call Shaw support and they couldn't provide an answer. What is your experience with this red recording light? Thanks. |

My experience with the volume control is that you can only adjust it on the pvr if you're using rca cables for your audio. It doesn't function when using HDMI.
The red light may be for a message from Shaw. You can access messages through the menu. I'm not sure if that is the issue though. |

Use the volume buttons on the Motorola box itself to change the volume of the box. As for the effect, I don't know because I haven't played around with it more than just by accident and checking that it is set at the "optimal" level.

Normally Shaw maps the volume control on the remote to the TV volume controls, not the STB controls. This is typically the way you should do it, but if you really wanted to change it, you can look in the manual for the remote and see how to change the volume control mapping.
This is only really useful if you were using an ancient TV that didn't actually have a remote.. |

I agree with loracweb.
I was hooked up with RCA's to an old AVR and the volume function of the PVR worked and now that I am using an HDMI connection to a new AVR it no longer does affect the volume.

I just acquired a Motorola 3416. I havn't activated yet. But when I plugged in an electrical outlet, the hard drive started running. The sound is quite noticeable even when I turned on the TV. Is it defective or is it normal ? Anyone with a quiet 3416 ? Thanks for help.

Using the 3416 I changed the volume on the box by going into device mode on my Harmony remote and selecting volume up/down. I am using HDMI and Optical Audio, so I can confirm that that will work.

Now I don't hear it all all even up close of a few inches.. Don't know why it chanegd BUT I did have prerecorded materials on this at the time of noise..
