Default Hi-def Software Sales for week ending Jan. 20

The numbers are not out yet but there are articles saying that Good Luck Chuck was the #1 Blu-ray for the week and The Kingdom was the #1 HD DVD again.

I'm surprised that Good Luck Chuck would be #1 but I guess there were not any really interesting new releases this week.

I don't think we'll see an 85:15 again but likely something in the 75:25 area. Any other predictions?

I'm thinking 79:21. Some recovery after the bomb shell.

81:19

There won't be many (if any) weeks where it drops too far into the 70s. Speaking of sales ratios, whatever happened to SensualPoet?

Her arguments were compelling and logical as to why HD DVD should be successful but in the end the combination of the PS3 "Trojan", Multiple Brands of Equipment makers, Greater Studio support and of course the final nail of the Warner buyout quashed her arguments.

I think it's a case of "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all".

She's classier than me for sure.

If the Planet Earth Sales Rank at Amazon is any indication, then it tells the story for this week and the weeks to come. The Toshiba fire sale will only give a small short lived boost to HD-DVD software sales. This was HD-DVD best seller.

did Planet Earth go on sale? BD and HD DVD went up at the same time, BD more so though.

It was not on sale any time recently as far as I know. Yes for Amazon sales comparions at least Planet Earth seems to be a good indicator.

It's hard to say how it is going down at the bigger sellers like Best Buy though.

I don't know about sales but I presume any sale would have applied to both. Also, the trend shows that BD was gaining momentum throughout December and actually matched sales with HD-DVD before the Warner announcement.

What is also notable is that Amazon in the past had higher HD-DVD sales vs Blu-ray than what showed up in the Nielson results. Today Blu-ray had 9 titles in the top 50 vs 3 from HD-DVD. This is a dramatic shift in software sales and it seems the Toshiba sale is not having any impact. It looks like we will continue to see 4:1 sales ratios for the coming weeks.

77:23 BD... I doubt we'll see anything close to 2:1 again and the norm will be between 3:1 and 4:1 until May 31.

Default Actual numbers 83:17 for week

http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/ques...2708/index.php

83:17 for Week
76:24 for YTD
64:36 Since inception

Top 10 all Blu-rays again. Good Luck Chuck outsold The Kingdom about 6:1.

I did not expect it to be essentially the same.
