MMORPG's are evil!!
Ok maybe not totally evil but can be highly addictive and can really interfere with your life. I used to spend many, many hours per week playing them (not WoW but previous ones like Asheron's Call, Horizons, Dark Age of Camelot, Everquest 2, and others). I have never even seen WoW but am not surprised at the huge numbers that they have been able to accomplish. I have heard mostly good things about it. |

I had bought into Counterstrike because it was a one time fee. Buy the game and get online when I want. But AFAIK with Warcraft, you have to pay as you play? Is that the only way it works? I wouldn't mind checking it out, but I don't game consistently enough to want to buy a subscription.

Yes you you need to pay the subscription. They have a 10 day trial thing you can get for free by download.
My suggestion, don't do it. You might get hooked and this game is like crack. I speak from experience. |

$25 for the game and $14.99 a month to play. Slightly less if you buy 3, 6, or 12 months at a time,

$15 a month X 10 Million subscribers. Not bad for a video game eh?
MMO's are a treadmill. Max out content, get the best gear, release a new expansion, rinse and repeat. I play WoW myself. Probably even considered hardcore. In what they call a PVE progression guild. Illidan will feel my wrath very soon!! |

Plus 10 million x $25 for the game plus the expansion packs!

While I'm not into that kind of stuff at all, I crack up whenever I see the Mr. T or Shatner commercials for WOW.

The exec's probably pocket that as a christmas bonus.
I think Blizzard sit's up there with Apple and Nintendo for current technology earning behemoth's. They are however owned by Vivendi. Unsure if the actual earnings are broken down or watered down by Vivendi's other ventures. |

Interesting read of the details...
2.5 million players in North America, 4.5 million in Asia... and I think Asia is where the growth is. As a player of WoW for a couple of years, I can tell you WAY more people are quitting than joining. Many of the servers are much lower population than previous years. That could change with the next expansion... WoW is the devil... it's all about grind. |

My son lives on that program. I don't get it but there must be something I can't see, sort of like chess I suppose. I personally am addicted to PGA2000 and have played it for 8 years now!!!
