Hi folks
I'm going crazy here trying to figure out how I'm going to run rear speaker wires in my new place. Here's the setup: tv against the window, sofa opposite the tv. That leaves a space of about 2' between each end of the sofa and the walls of the living room. There's a large opening on the left wall for the dining room, so I can't run the wire across the opening. So I'm left getting a rug and running the wire under it to the sofa. I'm still left with the problem of running the wire from the sofa to the wall over hardwood floor. Any ideas at all? |

Here's a mirror image of the basic room layout:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bozec75/2207586665/ As you can see, there's a large opening beside the sofa where I can't run a wire unless I staple it to the floor. I'd like to avoid that, and run the wire from the sofa to minimize the exposure. |

I will be using 3 channels panduit as baseboards in order to have easy access to the cabling in future. This is an option you could look at... it doesn`t have to be panduit, can be any other brand you may prefer!

Depending on what's above your ceiling...I mounted my surrounds overhead pointing down from swivel brackets because I have access to my attic.

What floor is this room on?
Is the attic right above it? If so, you could run the wires to the attic, and then down Is the basement right below, and unfinished? If so, run the cables down to the basement, and then back up |

I second the attic idea, if available it's your best friend. I'm running 20 extra feet or so by going to the attic, all in the name of hiding those wires!

I should have elaborated. It's an apartment, and I don't think my upstairs neighbor would let me run wires
How bad would it be if I put the surrounds right next to the sofa so there's no wires running between the speakers and the sofa? Would that be putting the speakers ridiculously close? |

Can you not simply run the wire across the opening to the dining room and hide or cover it by either replacing the transition or adding an additional one?

Thanks for the idea Eljay, I was just starting to think that. Now to see what's available that looks half decent on hardwood floors.

I know some floor covering exist for such a task and since this is hard wood floor, you could either use double sided tape to hold the covering together or use some velcro (which I would prefer my self as it is not as messy and easy access if need be!).
