Any thoughts? My PC has been shutting down randomly over the last week and I've been getting weird errors that won't go away (although both of these have not been happening for the last 2 days). then today I see this in my Start menu....
2 things that I have installed recently that have both been giving me a bit of grief - drivers (and associated software) for a Lexmark all-in-one printer and Norton Antivirus (online version through Rogers ) In case it helps - running WinXP (SP2), dual-core, 1 Gb ram, 1.7 Ghz processor on a HP desktop PC. ![]() |

Get rid of the Norton anti-virus. It is notorious for being bloatware that isn't very effective.
Replace it with Avast. It's free and is very efficient. |

It could also be NAV and/or other Rogers software. I would never install software from an ISP like Rogers. It is not necessary with WinXP/Vista and ISP software is well known for messing up systems. It can also be a pain to uninstall and get the system back to its former state. The "free" NAV is tempting but you don't know what else they slipped in with it. |

These kinds of events render image archiving most precious.
Once your problem gets resolved, you may want to invest time to evaluate the acquisition of Acronis True Image as a HDD backup system, preferably with the use of an external HDD. |
