Default Cable Length Limit?

Can anyone tell me if there is a limit to the length of cable that Rogers will install in your house?

What happened was I was supposed to get VIP Digital and Rogers Phone (w/Call Display). The phone was to be switched from Bell.

He says I only have 1 (one) cable outlet in the house. In the corner of my livingroom (where I have the TV). There are no phone jacks on that wall or the 2 adjoining walls. Only on the oposite wall.

The technician said the only way to wire the phone outlet was to run a wire across my livingroom floor. Obviously I can't have that. I wanted him to run the wire around the walls along the baseboard to to oposite wall. He say no go.

Also, he says he could connect the phone in the same corner as the TV. I said well that's not a problem as I don't really care if it's on this side or that side. But, he says, that will de-activate all the other phone jacks in the house. Well that won't work as I have dial-up internet in another room.

So, anyway, is there a limit to the cable length or was he just avoiding the work of running a long cable around the room?

Thanks,

James

The Roger's adds all say that switching is simple, and you get to keep all yor existing phones and jacks. Running a cable across your living room does not seem to be a reasonable proposal. Talk with Customer Service.

The phone should be hooked up where your cable comes in the house so all the jacks in your house have access to the phone line.

I would call ROgers, explain the situation and see what they say. They do try and it sounds like you just got a difficult installer.

I realize this is a bit late, but when I had my cable modem installed in my condo years ago, the first tech that showed up wanted to staple the coax along the baseboards and around the door frames. I refused. They then sent a two man team who fished the cable through the walls, along air ducts etc. As a result, my cable is well hidden, visible only where it crosses the laundry room ceiling. They even pulled in a couple of runs of CAT 5, along with the coax, so I could extend my computer network to the other end of my condo. In short a very nice job. On the other hand, when my sister had a new outlet added upstairs, the (Cogeco) installer simply stapled the cable to the middle of the living room wall, to reach the 2nd floor. It all depends on how much you allow them to do. If the first installer won't do a decent job, send him away and complain!
