On the BTV STBs, a "message" comes on screen if the STB is off and the TV is on. On the Rogers STBs, what happens can depend on the TV/STB/connection used.

For STBs I always recommend to change the global power setting to leave the STB on all the time, this way you don't get "out of sync". This uses about 21 W instead of 20 W in standby. For PVRs I recommend turning off. This is done when programming the global power to only switch the desired devices - TV, AVR, etc.

Default Peculiar "feature" with 4250HD

Today, I bought a couple of 4250HDs. One is connected to an old TV and the other to my computer monitor. I've noticed something strange. I can turn the 4250 off, but when I switch my monitor through the various inputs (HDMI, DVI & VGA), the sound and video start coming from the 4250, even though it's turned off. When this happens, it is completely unresponsive to the remote, other than the power switch. The converter is connected to the monitor via HDMI and analog audio cables to a stereo receiver.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Noticed many times since the unit is not really "off", it's in standby.

Curious. The sound and video stay off, until I switch the monitor. Well, I guess it's nothing to worry about then.

jamesk, see the post above yours. i posted aobut this happening to me too, did you not see my post?

it happens be cause the hdmi sends a signal to check if the source is connected, and when it does find it, it powers it on, but in the case of the 4250 its still off. i already posted about this, no body seemed to listen to me theyre answer was leave it always turned on, which is a temporary solution, but not a permanent one.

No, I didn't see your message until now, as I created a new thread which was then tacked onto the end of this one.

You need to make sure that you are tuned to the HD stations in the SuperSports package to watch it in HD, otherwise you get the SD feed. HD feed is in the 49X range, as well as in the 35X range as duplicates...

Hello Ale,

THanks! But I realize that most aren't offered in HD. I was curious.. since I Can't access ANY of the channels period. My box however, I figured this out this morning.. is stuck in b'cast mode. Meaning its only doing 1 way communication in.

So I've replaced some cables... still nothing.
Moved the explorer somewhere else in the house... still nothing.
So now, I have a tech coming.. maybe to change out the splitter/lines...

yeah if its in b'cast then its a communication problem between the box and the node on your street. it could also be a bigger problem than just you, ive also seen a node gone bad, but no one on the node had digital, so the problem was never "reported" untill someone on the node became a digital customer.

Not all channels in Super Sports are SDV stations... some are, but not all...

Default Rogers HD Box and 720p resolution - problems

When my rogers box is out putting 720p resolution, when I press the settings button, there are some lines that blink across the screen. Could this becaused by a bad TV or bad HDMI cable? The problem goes away when I watch a program in 1080i or when I force it to 1080i resolution. Another thing to consider, it does not happen on upconverted sd content, only when a true HD station is being brodcasted and when ever I'm in the settings or quick settings, or it used to happen in the guild too, but since quick start launched, it dont do it in guild no more.

could it be a bad HDMI cable? should I try another one? I never did it with Analog connection to the tv (component)
